👀 We are summing up the results of the recent Matter and Materials conference, which was dedicated to the latest research and advancements in materials science, chemistry, and related fields.

The world's leading scientists gathered at the event at Skoltech: Professor Yuri Oganessian, a legendary scientist who discovered 10 elements from the periodic table. One of them, oganesson, is named after him. Professor Ho-Kwang Mao - a patriarch of high-pressure physics chemistry and Professor Michele Parrinello, a father of modern computational chemistry.

Over the two days, 23 keynote speakers spoke at the conference, including outstanding scientists: RAS and Lomonosov Moscow State University Professor Igor Pekov who contributed to discovering 284 new minerals, with him being the lead author for 156 of them, and Skoltech professor and the head of Energy Center Artem Abakumov, who became a co-laureate of the prestigious Vyzov award for researchers in the “Breakthrough” category" last year.

The poster session showcased 240 research items from PhD and other students from Russia, Belarus, China, Armenia, and other countries. The best poster awards went to Di Zhou, Daniil Poletaev, and Nikolay Chtchelkatchev.

At the closing ceremony of the conference, Skoltech Rector Alexander Kuleshov and Distinguished Professor Artem R. Oganov, who heads the Material Discovery Laboratory at Skoltech, presented Yuri Oganessian and Ho-Kwan Mao with honorary doctorates from Skoltech — they became the first recipients in the history of the institute.

☝️ On March 19, we invite all those who wants to pursue a future in physics and looking for top-quality programs that provide the knowledge and skills for a brilliant career in this field to join us at the Skoltech campus.

We will dive into the Photonics and Quantum Materials, Advanced Computational Science, and Applied Photonics and Optical Information Systems master's programs, and also present the Physics PhD program.

Afterward, we will take you on a tour of the campus and labs, and then, in a relaxed atmosphere over a cup of coffee (or tea), you will have a chance to chat with programs’ representatives, admissions committee members, and current Skoltech students.

👉 Register now.
⚡️ Please welcome the new Skoltech master's program — Applied Photonics and Optical Information Systems

What you need to know about the program:

🔹 combines fundamental knowledge in the field of optics with more practical operational and design aspects of modern optoelectronics systems

🔹 aims to provide graduates with all the tools needed for a successful career in applied photonics

🔹 focuses on general engineering approaches (modeling, design), but much time is also devoted to modern processing methods, including machine learning and the development of optical neural networks

🔹 leverages the state-of-the-art photonics facilities at Skoltech to support the development of advanced photonic devices for telecommunications, medicine, laser technology, quantum technologies, etc.

🔹 emphasis on modern photonic information systems implemented in an integrated format, including photonic integrated circuits (systems on a chip)

🔹 designed and provided to meet the latest industry trends and the needs of a rapidly growing market,  ensuring the future success of its graduates in both academic and industrial environments
