👩🔬 The main product of a scientist's work is scientific discoveries. They can be shared with the scientific community using a poster, article, or presentation. Therefore, it is crucial important to be able to distinguish your work from others.
On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, together with Marina Tepliakova, a research fellow at the Center for Energy Technologies and the author of the course "Scientific Design: From Poster to Cover" as part of the Independent Study Period (ISP), we will talk about how a scientist can make a high-quality poster.

🙋♂️ Welcome to Skoltech! The Life Sciences Winter School is officially open!
It wasn't easy to be selected as the best among 222 candidates, but 48 young scientists from various cities across Russia, including Moscow, Astrakhan, Kazan, Dolgoprudny, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Pushkino, St. Petersburg, Samara, Stavropol, Vladivostok, as well as from Ecuador and Vietnam, did it.
The next three days will be filled with a busy program prepared by Skoltech scientists. Activities include campus tours, lectures by Bio Center professors Mikhail Gelfand and Ekaterina Khrameeva, workshops on mastering the art of working with English-language scientific articles, and refining public speaking skills. Participants will receive support from PhD students in the Life Sciences program.

✨ Professor Pavlos Lagoudakis is a world-renowned expert in polaritonics, photonics, light-matter interactions, and semiconductor physics. His research focuses on polaritons—hybrid quasiparticles that combine the properties of light and matter. His pioneering work in the field aims to develop polariton simulators for unconventional computing and create all-optical logic elements capable of operating under environmental conditions. These studies are crucial for the future of optical quantum computing.
Currently serving as Senior Vice President for Basic Research at Skoltech, Professor Lagoudakis is also the Head of the Hybrid Photonics Laboratory, which he founded, and the Director of the Photonics Center. Before joining Skoltech in 2016, he was a faculty member at the University of Southampton, where he held a Personal Chair and played a key role in interdisciplinary research. During his tenure, he chaired the University's Nanoscience Research Strategy Group, an Interdisciplinary Research Group of 100 academics across physics, chemistry, maths, engineering, biology, and medicine. He has also been a Visiting Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
His outstanding contributions to science have earned him international recognition. He is the recipient of the inaugural "Vyzov" Prize for breakthrough research in polaritonics (2023) and the IUPAP Quantum Electronics Young Scientist Prize (2011). His research has been widely cited, with an h-index of 52 on Google Scholar and over 10,000 citations worldwide.
At Skoltech, Professor Lagoudakis teaches the Photonics Research Seminar Series. The course aims to provide MSc and PhD students with a broader perspective on state-of-the-art research in photonics, and also trains students in structuring scientific results, developing coherent narratives, and delivering them in the form of a strictly timed oral presentation.
