🇷🇺 🇬🇷 The Greek Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ekaterini Xagorari, paid a visit to Skoltech on December 24, 2024. The guest was welcomed by Professor and Senior Vice President for Basic Research Pavlos Lagoudakis, Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lawrence Stein, and Vice President for Communications Oksana Kurilova.
The ambassador discussed the prospects of academic cooperation with the Institute, toured the Skoltech campus, and got acquainted with the research areas of Skoltech.
Vladimir Kalyaev, the head of projects for the development group at Skoltech’s Fablab, demonstrated the latest laboratory equipment and spoke about the Institute’s research infrastructure for prototyping technological developments.
Head of Research Equipment Service Group Ivan Skvortsov from the Research Facilities Center presented the Advanced Imaging Core Facility and showed its infrastructure, including a unique transmission electron microscope that allows studying the elemental composition at the atomic level.
Ekaterini Xagorari also got acquainted with the Laboratory of Hybrid Photonics at the Skoltech Photonics Center, headed by Professor Pavlos Lagoudakis. In 2019, laboratory scientists developed the world’s first fully optical polariton transistor capable of operating at room temperature and having an unprecedentedly high gain ratio. The center is also working on a technology for using single-layer carbon nanotubes.

The main life hack for passing the selection at Skoltech is to make it in the first wave. There are 4 reasons for this:
🔹 According to our statistics, the number of participants is not as large as in subsequent waves, which means lower competition and higher chances of successfully passing the selection for you;
🔹 More time to prepare your thesis;
🔹 You can relax in the summer without worrying about admission;
🔹 If you fail to pass the selection for the chosen program, you will have the opportunity to apply for the next wave.
Mark the dates of the first deadline in your calendar:
🔸 March 10 — for the master's programs;
🔸 April 28 — for the PhD programs.
You can apply for the selection and find useful information about Skoltech programs here.

🚀 For first-year master's students, the calendar year at Skoltech traditionally began with the ISP. During the Independent Study Period, students, faculty, staff, and guest speakers can organize their own courses not bound with the traditional educational programs. During this period, students have the opportunity to explore areas outside of their specialization, developing their horizons and soft skills.
This year, based on the results of the competition, a record number of 59 courses were selected for the program: from Bodybuilding and Serbian Language to Python For Data Science and Craft of Coffee-Making. We attended some of them and talked to their authors, and now want to share it with you.
For example, Associate Professor at Khalifa University Andrei Sleptchenko, who developed the course “Applied Statistics,” told us the 5 concepts of how to use statistics in your work.
By the way, these rules can be used to prepare for the competitive selection at Skoltech. We remind you that the next deadline for MSc programs is scheduled for March 10.
