🌻 Inverter Classifications
✅ There are 3 different classifications of inverters for solar:
1⃣ Stand-alone
2⃣ Grid-Tied
3⃣ Battery Backup
🌻All 3 have the same basic function to convert the Direct Current (DC) output of solar modules into Alternating Current (AC), which is the standard type in your home and on the utility grid.
1⃣ Stand-alone
🌻 These inverters are specific to solar systems that do not tie into a utility grid.
🌻 They manage how much energy is needed to keep the batteries charged while taking the energy output from solar modules and converting that to AC for consumption inside the home.
2⃣ Grid-Tied
🌻 These inverters interact with the utility grid. The utility grid has certain electrical properties and the inverter will alter the DC current to match the properties of the grid.
🌻 These are most common in residential solar systems installed around the US.
3⃣ Battery Backup
🌻 These inverters are similar to Stand-alone Inverters but with the added functionality of interacting with the utility grid.
🌻 They are able to sense whether the utility grid is functioning or not while maintaining a battery system and the DC output of solar panels.
