A: Adobe Flash — это мультимедийная программная площадка, на которой в ранних 2000-ых до появления JavaScript, CSS и HTML5 держалось больше половины всего Интернета. На Flash работали дизайны вебсайтов, видео-плееры, т.д., и на нём же делали анимации и игры, крайне популярные в то время.
.swf (Shockwave Flash), в свою очередь — это файловый формат для вышеназванных анимаций и игр, выполненных в Adobe Flash.

Q: С помощью чего открывать .swf файлы? Что с ними вообще делать?
A: Для проигрывания такого рода медиа необходим Standalone Adobe Flash Player (учтите, что для его работы может потребоваться установка дополнительных библиотек на вашу систему) или эмулятор Adobe Flash. Сам плеер и известные нам, проверенные эмуляторы, доступные на Windows, Linux, macOS и Android, вы можете скачать из нашей папки на Filen.

Q: Я могу доверять Ruffle/Lightspark? Я ничего о них не знаю.

Q: Adobe Flash? .swf? What is all of this?
A: Adobe Flash is a multimedia software platform more than half of the entire Internet depended on in early 2000s, before came the replacements such as JavaScript, CSS and HTML5. Website designs, video players and more relied on Flash, as well as animations and games that were popular back then were made in Flash.
On the other hand .swf (Shockwave Flash) is a file format for the aforementioned animations and games made in Adobe Flash.

Q: How do I open .swf files? What am I supposed to do with them?
A: To play those files you need Standalone Adobe Flash Player (keep in mind that you may need to install additional libraries onto your system for the player to work) or Adobe Flash emulator. You can find the said player and some known to us, trusted emulators, available for Windows, Linux, macOS and Android, in our folder on Filen.

Q: Can I trust Ruffle/Lightspark? I've never heard of that software before.
A: Both Ruffle and Lightspark are open-source. You can browse through the source code of both emulators on their GitHub repositories: Ruffle, Lightspark. You can download binaries for both emulators there as well.

A: Две крайне простые причины, почему мы отказываемся выбрасывать Adobe Flash на свалку истории — ностальгия и презервация. Мы не хотим отказываться от Flash только лишь потому, что корпорация, обладающая авторскими правами на данную технологию, сказали что она более не актуальна и закопали её в землю, мы хотим сохранить эту часть цифровой истории во что бы то ни стало.
И мы далеко не единственные, кто думает также! Портал Newgrounds.com на протяжении всей своей истории был одной из крупнейших площадок для хостинга анимаций и игр на Adobe Flash на любой вкус и цвет, и ко всему этому всё ещё можно прикоснуться прямо там же; на имиджборде e621.net всё ещё хранятся Flash анимации в открытом доступе для всех желающих; энтузиасты и программисты создают опен-сурсные эмуляторы Adobe Flash и выставляют коллекции игр на Flash в открытый доступ, выстраивая эдакий цифровой музей.

Q: Adobe Inc. ended support for Flash at the end of 2020. Adobe Flash is dead?
A: Not exactly. On the contrary, we think exactly the opposite is true, though without it's former glory, and a lot of people still (us included) feel very nostalgic about Flash. Technologies at the core of Adobe Flash still live on in Adobe Animate. Adobe Flash itself is no longer officially maintained, but nobody is stopping anyone from playing Flash animations and games locally, or online through the aid of browser plugins, such as Ruffle.

Q: If Adobe Flash is officially "dead", why still hold onto it? Don't you think it's time to forget about it and move on?
A: We are driven by two very simple reasons — nostalgia and preservation. We don't want to leave Adobe Flash behind just because a corporation in possession of copyright power over the technology has decided that it should die, left it in the graveyard and told us that it's not relevant anymore, we want to preserve this piece of digital history no matter what.
And we are far from being the only ones think feel this way! Newgrounds.com over the entirety of it's existence was one of the largest hosting platforms of Flash animations and games for literally any taste, and you can still access all of them right there; e621.net imageboard still hosts a lot of Flash animations for anyone to access; enthusiasts and programmers make open-source Adobe Flash emulators and host to the public collections of Flash games worth of a whole digital museum.
Up to a point in time Adobe Flash was a very important part of Internet culture, and we must try to preserve it at all costs.

Q: Почему бы не конвертировать .swf в какой-нибудь другой формат? Разве нельзя перевести их в видео, например?
A: Не так давно от нашего подписчика нам на самом деле стало известно об опен-сурс инструменте для конвертации Adobe Flash анимаций в видео — Swivel.
Увы, на практике всё оказалось не столь радужно, поскольку технически этот инструмент хорошо справляется с конвертацией анимаций без интерактивных элементов, а для анимаций и игр с таковыми едва ли работает. Так что в обозримое время это не вариант для нас.
Отчаиваться однако не стоит, поскольку разработка эмуляторов идёт куда активнее, потому становится куда более практично просто запустить желаемый .swf файл, чем возиться с конвертацией в другой формат.

Q: Why not convert .swf into some other format? Can you make them into videos, for example?
A: Not so long ago we did discover an open-source tool for converting Adobe Flash animations into videos thanks to one of our subscribers — Swivel.
Unfortunately in practice it wasn't as useful as we wish it was — technically this tool works amazingly converting animations without interactive elements, and it barely works for animations and games that do have them. For the foreseeable future this is not a solution.
It is not a reason to worry though since the development of Adobe Flash emulators goes rapidly these days, therefore it becomes much more practical to play .swf files straight away than to fiddle with conversion to another format.

[EN] Ladies and gentlecolts, we're celebrating the third anniversary of Sunsper's Clop Stash! 🎉🍰

For three years now we've been posting a wide variety of pony content for all of you without major hiccups, and we're not planning to stop.
Throughout the years the channel has undergone a lot of changes and has grown a lot — the subscribers count is over 300 already (don't be shy to invite your friends, it's much more fun to celebrate a birthday in a big company!).
For the past three years we've been through a lot as well, but we are still full of energy to do what we love.

Due to the anniversary another 24-hour posting period is officially open!
