The Istana appears to be a regular stopover for owls, with latest one making a visit after visits in 2015 & 2013. (It's rather curious why they come by every 2 years!).

True to their reputed wisdom, owls seemed to have learnt not to fly into the Istana. Our latest visitor was quite content to keep a silent watch from its perch above the main entrance of the building.

The Writ of Election for the Presidential Election was issued today. Nomination Day will be on 13 September.

Have nominated Tan Chuan-Jin to be next Speaker of Parliament, as Mdm Halimah Yacob has resigned to run for President. A very difficult decision, as MSF would lose an effective & activist Minister.

Met President Joko Widodo and his family for a nasi lemak breakfast earlier. Looking forward to our retreat later. #RISING50

Have landed in Beijing.

Look forward to meeting President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, National People's Congress Chairman Zhang Dejiang, and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Secretary Wang Qishan later.

I’ve made annual trips to China in recent years – except in 2015, when President Xi made a State Visit to Singapore. Our Ministers also often visit China, and it’s good to see our series of exchanges continue. Hope to discuss existing and new areas of cooperation that will benefit both our countries. 🇸🇬🇨🇳

A fruitful meeting with Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing today. Look forward to deeper cooperation between SG and China, as well as stronger collaboration between China and ASEAN. 🇸🇬🇨🇳

Met President Xi Jinping today. We discussed new areas of bilateral cooperation, and agreed to continue bringing our relations to the next level. Just touched down in Xiamen. 🇸🇬🇨🇳
