The US is imposing 10% tariffs on imports from all countries, including Singapore. In addition, it will impose higher ‘reciprocal’ tariffs on many countries with which it has significant trade deficits.

We will not respond with tariffs of our own, though many countries are bound to do so. For now, Budget 2025 measures provide adequate support. PM Lawrence Wong and his team will continue to monitor developments closely, and stand ready to intervene to help households and businesses if necessary.

Visited Teck Ghee Court Market and Food Centre this morning and met many stallholders and residents. Heartened to see that they enjoy the amenities in Teck Ghee. Deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Lee Ek Tieng. He is perhaps best remembered for cleaning up the Singapore River and Kallang Basin. His legacy lives on in the institutions he helped build, the policies he shaped, and the nation he helped transform. go.gov.sg/wvf1iw

Met residents and caught up with my volunteers at the MPS in Teck Ghee last night. Some residents are dealing with difficult situations, but I was heartened by their quiet determination to find solutions. We will make every effort to support those in need, and make sure no one struggles alone, or gets left behind.

Very saddened by the passing of former Malaysian PM Tun Abdullah Badawi. We did much together to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia. In 2007 we held the first ever Leaders’ Retreat in Langkawi – a practice which continues between our successors.
