Ransomeware

Let's learn about Ransomeware today

Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that encrypts a victim's files or locks their device and demands a ransom in exchange for the decryption key or unlock code.

Imagine you have a big box where you keep all your favorite things, like your gadgets, books, and pictures.

Now, imagine someone comes and locks the box with a special key, and they say, "If you want to open the box and get your things back, you have to pay me some money!"

That's kind of like what ransomware is. It's a type of bad computer virus that locks up all your important files and documents on your computer or phone, and then asks you to pay money to get them back.

It's like the bad guy is holding your files hostage, and they won't let you have them back until you pay the ransom. But, it's not a good idea to pay the ransom, because it might not even work, and you'll just be giving money to the bad guys!

So, it's very important to be careful when using computers and phones, and to make sure you have good security to protect your files from bad viruses like ransomware. Make sense?

How Ransomware Works:

1. Infection: Ransomware typically spreads through phishing emails, infected software downloads, or exploited vulnerabilities in operating systems or applications.

2. Encryption: Once installed, the ransomware encrypts files on the victim's device, making them inaccessible.

3. Ransom Demand: The ransomware displays a ransom note, demanding payment in exchange for the decryption key.

4. Payment: If the victim pays the ransom, the attacker may provide the decryption key. However, there's no guarantee that the attacker will fulfill their end of the bargain.

Types of Ransomware:

1. Encrypting Ransomware: Encrypts files and demands a ransom in exchange for the decryption key.

2. Locking Ransomware: Locks the device and demands a ransom to restore access.

3. Doxware: Threatens to publish sensitive information if the ransom isn't paid.

Consequences:

1. *Data Loss*: Ransomware can result in permanent data loss if the decryption key is not obtained.

2. *Financial Loss*: Paying the ransom can be costly, and there's no guarantee of getting the decryption key.

3. *System Downtime*: Ransomware can cause significant system downtime, impacting business operations and productivity.

*Prevention:*

1. *Regular Backups*: Regularly back up important data to prevent losses.

2. *Software Updates*: Keep operating systems, applications, and antivirus software up-to-date.

3. *Phishing Awareness*: Educate users on phishing tactics to prevent initial infections.

4. *Network Segmentation*: Segment networks to limit the spread of ransomware.

By understanding ransomware and taking proactive measures, individuals and organizations can reduce the risk of infection and minimize the impact of a ransomware attack.

I Grew my YouTube channel to 22k subscribers and another (DEXA's) to 6k subscribers last year.

By December I got an offer to influence via demo video for a US tech company selling a software within DEXA's niche.

I charged NGN1.7 million.

The company offered to pay NGN800K for me to post it on my 22k channel and 480k on DEXA's 6k subs channel.

They might eventually go with one option.

The gig is just for me to advertise/market their software in a brief "How to" tutorial of just 5 to 8mins.

____

Wait! Someone can pay upto NGN 800k for just 5 to 8mins video of me talking about their tech product?

See ba?

Whatever legitimate thing you're doing, do it passionately.

Don't get me wrong!

1) Not like the pay is big

2) Not like such offers and more don't come to other random people who are just like me,

3) Not like I put in toooo much hard work to get that attention.

I just didn't see this happening already. I expected to go viral as a person first, before such offers would come.

And... I'm not consistent on making content. Just DEXA and Tech related stuff.

Bottom line;

Youtube content is a goldmine.

Tech is an untapped treasure box.

Do your craft passionately and talk about it.

Leverage social media platforms.

Talk! Advertise! Market! Push your craft out.

Find the platforms that are the perfect channels for your craft and keep showing up in people's faces.

You'll slowly begin to attract the right kind of attention.
_

Once they are done with the NDA document, we'll set off on the project and I'll anticipate my first pay from youtube tech gig. Lol

It Feels good!

PS: There are other hidden lessons I didn't highlight in the write up. Especially with the financial part. The pricing and final agreement. Let's see who gets it.

Nothing is as good or as bad as it seems.

Luck and Risk are siblings; They are both the reality that every outcome in life is guided by forces other than individual effort.

For every Bill Gates, there's a Kent Evans who was just as skilled and driven, but ended up on the other side of life roulette.

If you give luck and risk their proper respect, you realise that when judging people's financial success - both your own and others' - It's never as good or as bad as it seems.
