The first stage in developing in-game assets is solidifying the concept. It is important to ensure that it is faithful to the lore and ties in to the overall aesthetic of the game. This is usually done by fleshing out a good number of ideas via sketches, so that the entire team can visualise what the final product would look like.

As simple as sketching may sound (please don’t tell our artists that), there are many elements that they have to consider before starting. Such as: the story behind it, the display and scaling in-game, and most importantly, does it look cool? ;)

From the 8 different iterations shown, we’ve chosen to combine elements from options D and H to depict our Luminous Stronghold base structures. Which one is your favourite?

Here’s where the 3D process begins! After blocking out the main shapes, artists take a considerable amount of time to recreate every single detail from the concept art.

🧱 Laying down textures, carving, and sculpting them into the model, just like working with clay.

3D artists also have to consider the balance between aesthetics and working within polycount limits to ensure that it is playable on mobile devices.

🔹 Higher polycount = more detailed and realistic
🔹 Lower polycount = better in-game performance
