I tell you what, I've been doing a ton of reading on different ways to look at retrograde cycles that are truly mind blowing. Here's a write up about the mars retrograde cycles, for instance, that calls into question the fact that most astrologers don't take into account the vertical movement of the planets, which in ancient astrology was a HUGE deal.
(And, a big contributor to why mars was viewed as such a "malefic" force, because his retrograde goes wildly up and down, literally)
