The Solar Return.
Every year, sometimes up to two days before or two days after your Gregorian birthday you have what is known as your "solar return" which is your actual astrological birthday.
This is when the sun comes back to the exact degree and arc minute that it was when you were born. The image above is a portion of my solar return chart this year!

At the moment that this occurs, a new cycle begins for you. Many of the themes and events that will happen over the course of a year can be identified from the chart of the exact solar return.

The sun in the solar return chart is the main focus, and shows what area of life you're most likely to pay the most attention to, and may be asked to demonstrate your authority in. As an example, my solar return chart for this year has the sun conjunct Uranus in the 10th house, showing that I will be focused heavily on my vocation, which happens to be astrology, which is also symbolized by Uranus. Interestingly enough, Uranus also symbolizes community...

... and the other thing I'm building is a market garden on family land with my sister, and we hope to build a nice little community space.

Uranus here promises that whatever I do will have to be innovative and unique in some way.

Moon: Where the moon falls in your solar return chart shows what area or themes will bring you the most emotional comfort. You may be more drawn to places and people that represent these archetypes, you might need to work on emotional issues that arise here and you can always trust that the influence of moon, since it waxes and wanes, will bring an element of uncertainty and changeability.

Mercury: The house Mercury falls in will quite literally show you what you're thinking and talking the most about. Mercury always needs to be interpreted along with whatever he is most closely aspecting, as he is the messenger of the gods, after all.
❀2
Venus: This lovely planet can symbolize new relationships, of course, but also where we are most likely to find pleasure. It can be a bit more complex than that and incorporate women in our life, whether they be friends, lovers or acquaintances... or simply show us what we place the most value on over the course of the year.

Mars: Fiery, feisty mars always shows some kind of action that must be taken, he is a huge storehouse of energy and wherever he falls in the chart can give us clues about where we might need to utilize that energy better, or face consequences... It's always wise to channel mars constructively whenever possible.

Jupiter: Jovial, jolly Jupiter brings blessings, healing, philosophy of course, but depending on aspects and placement he is also known for expanding waistlines and excess, because too much of anything is not always a good thing. That said, Jupiter shows us our joy, and can symbolize teachers and people that may come in to offer some kind of assistance or blessing!
❀1πŸ”₯1
Saturn: Good ol' Saturn (literally) is often a reality check - he helps you build a solid foundation wherever he is, so pay close attention because there are definitely lessons and obstacles in the house he falls in, for the purpose of building you up stronger than you were before. Saturn is known as the lord of Karma for a reason... whether you believe in karma and that principle or not, it's basically just a fancy way of saying "cause and effect." There is ALWAYS some kind of reaction from the universe for whatever actions we take, so stay in alignment and pay attention to the lessons Saturn brings, especially in the house he falls for your Solar return.

Uranus: I mentioned Uranus already, but to expand on what I already said, he shows up as the impulse towards individuation. Some more keywords: Innovation, unique, eclectic, forward thinking, one of a kind, fast and sudden, engineering, electric... outcast, abandonment, and alienation. Because of the nature of Uranus, it can be very difficult to predict exactly what might happen where Uranus is involved, so expect the unexpected, sudden rises and falls...

Neptune: the Lord of Mystery, mysticism, illusions and confusion... foggy, watery, oily, ethereal... and feet. You can count on whatever house Neptune falls in to be a bit confusing. Use your creativity here, don't get lost in the fog. There is usually an aspect of surrender necessary, but how that looks for each individual will be different depending on circumstances, aspects and even aspects to the natal chart. Be on the lookout for the symbolism of Neptune, though, it can be pretty potent and sometimes quite obvious. P.S., Neptune is a troll.

Pluto: Finally, last but not least! Wherever Pluto falls in the Solar Return shows us where we're going through major transformation, often reveals something we need to leave behind because it is outmoded and no longer serves us. Pay close attention if there are any major aspects off of Pluto, but do not be discouraged if they look less than stellar - and don't blame anything on Pluto, either - this is always a necessary death and rebirth. There can be NO life without death, this is the cyclical nature of our reality. The house Pluto falls in may demand big changes.

With anything to do with astrology, it is very important to not look at anything in isolation!!!

The entire chart must be analyzed, but I hope this is a sweet and short guide to look at your own solar return chart with. I would pull up a list and description of what the houses are and play around with it. Sometimes it can be neat to look back at past years to see what went down and how that correlated to the layout of your solar return chart.
Have fun with it, and as always, if you want someone to take a closer look at your chart, message me directly. ❀️

β€œIf I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can warm me, I know that is poetry. If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry. These are the only ways I know it. Is there any other way?”

Where and how do you feel spirit?

Genius interview by Pam of a teacher and astrologer where she talks of how she uses her students Jupiter and Saturn placements for maximum engagement and better learning, and a little bit of behaviour modification.

Honestly, it's genius, and so simple. These are things any parent or teacher could apply to help their children succeed and feel appreciated. It would also help answer why different years of classes act so differently - one year would be mostly all Jupiter in Capricorn, and the next, Jupiter in Aquarius. Capricorn is reserved, traditional, and leaders, while Aquarius is oppositional, innovative, and will do the opposite of what you say.

I think it is a big game changer and I can't wait until this is more accepted and practiced.

What do you think?

I want to get a couple of her books!

For some, mother's day is a more painful reminder of their family of origin relationships (or lack thereof). Even if you had the most loving and caring of mother and guardians, you can still come away as an adult feeling like there was something missing. For some of us, we've had to do a lot of work to heal that inner dynamic.

There's a lot more to this process than just getting acquainted with your moon sign (symbolizing "mother"), but it can be a very helpful start in coming to a place of internal acceptance.

Take some time to look more into your own moon sign this week if the above describes you, and don't be afraid to reach out for support from loved ones.

If you're *new* to astrology, your moon sign is an important key to your personality and I highly highly recommend getting to know it.

Happy mother's day. <3
