Basilica of San Pietro In Vincoli

San Pietro in Vincoli is a Roman Catholic church with a rich history and beauty. Its name translates as "Saint Peter in chains", and this is a reference to the chains in which Saint Peter was held when he was imprisoned in Jerusalem. According to legend, these chains were brought to Rome by Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine.

The interior of the church, built in the 5th century, impresses with its intricate frescoes, ornate decorations and stunning stained glass windows, which are sure to attract the attention of visitors.

Petrovsky Park

During the War of 1812, Napoleon's headquarters was located here. The entire park then occupied a huge territory of 65 hectares. In order to organize such a miracle of nature here, they bought dachas and the nearby Maslov wasteland. By 1830, the park was becoming a favorite place for walking. Of course - billiard rooms, baths, coffee shops and gazebos are located throughout its territory. It was forbidden to build inns and inns on the territory of the park, and a little later the land was bought up for aristocratic dachas. A pond was dug in the park, dams were erected, and by the beginning of the XX century the park became known for the first tram line that ran from it to Strastny Boulevard.

Exchange Bridge

For a long time, the Exchange Bridge served as the only crossing over the Malaya Neva. It was almost impossible to implement the projects of other bridges, although they were gathering dust on the tables of many city architects. The reason for this was the financial difficulties experienced by the state, frequent wars and revolutionary events, which were so rich in the first half of the XX century.

The Grand Kremlin Palace

Perhaps, relative to the Kremlin itself, the Grand Kremlin Palace is a rather young structure - it was built by order of Nicholas | in 1849. Once, one of the oldest churches in Moscow, the Cathedral of the Savior on Bor, was located right inside the palace, but in 1933 it suffered the same fate as many other churches - it was demolished.

The architecture of the palace is peculiar - despite the fact that it conforms to some canons of classicism, for example, with its symmetry of forms, the details of the decor remind of traditional Russian architecture - in particular, the windows are decorated with carved platbands familiar to everyone.

Jewish Community Center

Now there are two such centers in the Northern capital. One of them is located in the historical part of the city, not far from Nevsky Prospekt. It belongs to the synagogue at 2 Lermontovsky Prospekt.

Its building was built in an unusual Moorish style for St. Petersburg. Famous architects L. I. Bakhman and I. I. Shaposhnikov, as well as V. V. Stasov and N. L. Benois participated in its design.

The synagogue has been operating since 1893, although the Bolsheviks closed it in 1930, but under the influence of the community, services resumed six months later.

Santi Apostoli
