Golden Tsaritsyna Chamber

This spacious building chamber has the shape of a square, which is covered by a vault-box.

The ward was used as a ceremonial reception room. At the end of the XVI century, after decorating with paintings on a golden background, it acquired its name. The painting contains detailed narratives depicting scenes from the life of the Tsarina of Byzantium and Georgia, as well as the Russian Princess Olga. Several unique fragments can be considered in the restoration of the middle of the last century, and many parts were lost during earlier updates.

Wawelberg House

The building was built by architect Marian Marianovich Peretyatkovich by order of the banker Mikhail Ippolitovich Vavelberg. The history of the territory on which the structure was erected is interesting. The houses of artists of the Bernikov 1802-1803 years of construction were located here at one time. There was an English restaurant nearby, where the residents of St. Petersburg were served steak for the first time.

In 1910, the plots of these houses were bought by Wawelberg for the construction of the St. Petersburg Merchant Bank. The house attracted the attention of the townspeople by the fact that it strongly resembled the Venetian Palazzo Ducale.

Rotunda On Gorokhovaya

In the house at the corner of Gorokhovaya Street and Fontanka Embankment, you can find the most mystical urban object - the Rotunda.

The building itself was erected at the end XVIII century and soon became an architectural monument of the classical era, known as the Eventiev House. Eventiev was indeed one of the owners, but another thing is noteworthy - initially the land on which the building stands belonged to the tax collector Savva Yakovlev. It is for this reason that it is also called the Yakovlev-Eventiev House.

Patriarch 's Ponds

Writers and poets have sung this place more than once, artists have painted, musicians have dedicated songs to it. But not everyone knows why the place is called Patriarch Ponds, when there is only one pond here. Before he chose this place as his residence of the patriarch Hermogenes, there was a Goat swamp here. And since he was a big fan of tasting fish dishes, three ponds were dug here to breed fish and deliver it fresh to the table.

After the patriarchate was abolished, there was no one to monitor the ponds, and they turned into swamps.
