Zero Kilometer
There is a small bronze "piglet" at the place where Red and Manezhnaya Squares connect. It is located near the Historical Museum, the Lenin Museum and the Chapel of the Iverskaya Mother of God. The "piglet" looks like a multi-pointed star and is called the "Zero kilometer of highways of the Russian Federation". It was installed in 1995 as a symbol of the beginning of all Russian roads.
The tradition of marking "zero kilometers" is alive all over the world - many capitals and just large cities have their own signs, steles, statues and signs, sometimes even towers and entire buildings marking the beginning of roads.

Nevsky Prospekt
Nevsky Prospekt, unlike its direct European and overseas highways-colleagues, looks like a reed broken in half from the air. The reason for the curvature of the avenue is in its history.
The road was built from two ends. From the side of the Sea Station, it was improved for the rapid movement of goods: food, hay and firewood. And from the side of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, monks built the road. Due to the inconsistency of the actions of the clergy and merchants, the avenue acquired a bend, where the metro station "Ploshchad Vosstaniya" is now located. It is curious that the section of the road that the monks laid is now popularly called Staro-Nevsky.
