We have to balance between wanting the Mercy of Allāh and fearing His punishment.

Al-Dhahabī said:
Allāh the Exalted said: {So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know} [an-Nahl: 43].
So if you, O this one, perceive in yourself understanding, sincerity, religion, and piety—then proceed.
Otherwise, do not trouble yourself.
And if desire and fanaticism for opinion and madhhab (school of thought) dominate you—then, by Allāh, do not wear yourself out.
And if you know that you are confused, reckless, and neglectful of the limits of Allāh—then relieve us of yourself.
For soon the counterfeit will be exposed, the flawed will fall, and evil scheming will only surround its people.
Indeed, I have advised you.
For the science of hadīth is austere—so where is the science of hadīth? And where are its people?
I almost do not see them except in a book or under the soil.
