- وَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْعُلَمَاءِ: " مِنْ شَرَفِ الْعِلْمِ وَفَضْلِهِ أَنَّ كُلَّ مَنْ نُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ فَرِحَ بِذَلِك، وإنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَكُلَّ مَنْ دُفعَ عنْهُ وَنُسِبَ إِلَى الْجَهْلِ عَزَّ عَلَيْه وَنالَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ جَاهِلًا
جامع بيان العلم وفضله ٢٩٥

Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Some of the scholars said: Among the signs of the nobility and virtue of knowledge is that everyone who is attributed to it rejoices in that, even if he is not truly among its people; and everyone from whom it is denied and who is attributed to ignorance is distressed by that and feels it deeply, even if he is ignorant.”
