Shaykh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

لا تقع فتنة إلا من ترك ما أمر الله به، فإنه سبحانه أمر بالحق و أمر بالصبر، فالفتنة إما من ترك الحق، وإما من ترك الصبر.

"Fitnah only befalls those who leave off what Allah has commanded them to do. That is because Allah commanded us with the truth and commanded us to be steadfastly patient, and fitnah comes about either from leaving off the truth or from leaving off steadfast patience."

[al-Istiqamah 1/39]

Allah said in surah al-Hijr [15]:

‎[وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ]

"We surely know those of you who go forward and We surely know those who lag behind." [24]

In part of his commentary on this ayah, Imam al-Baghawi mentioned the following:

‎[وقيل : المستقدمون في الصفوف في الصلاة والمستأخرون فيها . وذلك أن النساء كن يخرجن إلى صلاة الجماعة فيقفن خلف الرجال ، فربما كان من الرجال من في قلبه ريبة فيتأخر إلى آخر صفوف الرجال ، ومن النساء من كانت في قلبها ريبة فتتقدم إلى أول صفوف النساء لتقرب من الرجال . فنزلت هذه الآية .وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : " خير صفوف الرجال أولها وشرها آخرها ، وخير صفوف النساء آخرها وشرها أولها " . ]

Some have explained this ayah by saying that it refers to those who go forward in the front lines for the prayer and those who stay at the back. This is because the women would go out to the congregational prayer and stand behind the men, so maybe a man with some lack of conviction in his heart would lag behind in the last of the men's rows. Also, from the angle of the women, a woman with a lack of conviction in her heart might put herself forward in the first of the women's rows in order to be closer to the men. As a result, this ayah was revealed.

The Prophet said, "The best of the men's rows are the first of them and the worst of them are the last of them. The best of the women's rows are the last of them and the worst of them are the first of them."

In one of his lessons in al-Masjid al-Nabawi, sheikh 'Abd al-Razzaq al-Badr mentioned:

[انت ان قلت ان تجعل القرآن ربيع قلبي ، افتح المصحف واقراه وتدبر وتامل في كلام الله ، واجعل للقرآن حظ من وقتك حتى يكون ربيعا لقلبك. لن يكون القرآن ربيعا لقلب المرء وهو في الرف او يوضع كما في بعض البيوت للزينة . ]

If you ask Allah "make the Qur'an a spring of my heart", then open the mushaf and recite it, ponder and reflect on the Words of Allah, and set aside a regular portion of your time for the Qur'an so that it will become a spring of your heart.

The Qur'an will never be a spring of one's heart while it remains sitting on the shelf or displayed - as some people do - for home decoration.

Benefits of Lowering the Gaze #16

Lowering the gaze is a cause for recognizing the truth and for its firm establishment in the heart. If frequent gazing at what is forbidden removes the knowledge of truth from the heart, then lowering the gaze becomes a means of steadfastness and clear insight into the truth. Knowledge is a light that Allāh places in the heart of the believer, while sin is a darkness that extinguishes the light of knowledge.

When sins depart from the heart, its light increases, and its insight grows stronger.

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

اللهم اغفر له وارحمه وعافه واعف عنه وأكرم نزله ووسع مدخله واغسله بالماء والثلج والبرد ونقه من الذنوب والخطايا كما ينقى الثوب الأبيض من الدنس وابدله دار خير من داره واهلا خيرا من اهله وزوجا خيرا من زوجه وادخله الجنة واعذه من غذاب القبر وعذاب النار

كان رحمه الله من اكبر علماء الحديث في هذا العصر، وله جهود عظيمة ودروس مفيدة في هذا الباب

Shaykh Abū Ishāq Al-Huwaynī died today.

May Allāh forgive him and accept his good deeds.

Ibn Mas’ūd said: “It is hard for us to memorize the words of the Qur’an, but easy to act upon it.

But those after us will find it easy to memorize the Qur’an but hard to act upon it.”

Istighfaar

When you say ‘Astaghfirullah’ you are asking Allāh for two things:

• To cover/hide the sin
• To overlook (pardon) the sin and to not punish you for it

[Shaykh Muhammad bin Sālih al-Uthaymīn (rahimahullăh), al-Fatāwa, 16:87]

قال الإمام ابن مفلح الحنبلي -رحمه الله-:

" من عجيب ما رأيت ونقدت من أحوال النّاس كثرة ما ناحوا على خراب الدِّيار، والتّحسر على قلة الرزق، وذمَّ الزّمان وأهله، وذكر نكد العيش فيه، والحديث عن غلاء الأسعار، وهم قد رأوا من انهدام الإسلام والبعد عن المساجد وموت السُنن وتفشي البدع، وارتكاب المعاصي، والمجاهرة بها، فلا أجد منهم من ناح على دينه، ولا بكى على تقصيره، ولا أسى على فائت دهره، وما أرى لذلك سبباً -أي ماحلَّ بهم- إلاَّ قلة مبالاتهم بدين الإسلام وعِظمِ الدنيا في عيونهم ".

Ibn Muflih al-Hanbalī رَحِمَهُ الله said:
"One of the most astonishing things I have observed and critiqued about people's conditions is how much they mourn the ruin of their homes, grieve over a lack of provision, complain about the times and its people, speak of the hardships of life, and discuss rising prices. Yet, they witness the collapse of Islām, the neglect of masājid, the death of Sunnah, the spread of innovations, the committing of sins, and public displays of disobedience – but I do not find any of them mourning for their religion, weeping over their shortcomings [of their actions], or feeling sorrow for what has passed of their lives. I see no reason for what has afflicted them except their indifference to the religion of Islām and the greatness of the worldly life in their eyes."

Sufyan Ath-Thawri رحمه الله said:

⁩ "الدعاء في تلك الليلة ‌ليلة القدر⁩ أحب إلي من الصلاة".

“Du’a in the night of Qadr is more beloved to me than Salah”

قال ‌ ابن رجب⁩: "مراده أن كثرة الدعاء أفضل من الصلاة التي لا يكثر فيها الدعاء".

Ibn Rajab commented: “What he meant is that abundant Du’a is better than prayer in which Du’a is not frequent.”

وقالﷺ : "أقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجد، فأكثروا الدعاء".

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, so increase in supplication.”

Don’t neglect Du’a on this blessed night!

عن وكيع قال: خرجنا مع سفيان الثوري في يوم عيد فقال: إن أول ما نبدأ به في يومنا غض أبصارنا.

ابن أبي الدنيا في الورع ٦٦

Narrated from Wakī' [who] said: we went out with Sufyān Ath-Thaurī in the day of 'Eid, so he said: "The first thing we do on this day of ours is lower our gaze"
