Most modern Christians have actually learned that someone who follows God’s law and commandments is being “legalistic.”
This is a lie of the enemy, cleverly designed to lead believers away from following the LORD’s protective, loving ways.
When the LORD gave us His statutes, He did so for our benefit and to set us apart from the rest of the nations.
Our lives are supposed to look different- we are to be a “set apart “ people, a “light,” in order to draw the nations to ourselves and bring them into the family of God.
Those laws, commandments and statutes are what makes us different than those that follow their own hearts.
“There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death.”
Proverbs 14:12
The protection of God’s law keeps us healthy, teaches us how to love others and most importantly, how to love our God. We don’t get to choose how to love Him - He tells us how in His Word, in His commandments.
So the next time you hear of someone following God’s ways and “legalism” comes to mind, consider there’s perhaps more to study on this subject and that we have a very cunning enemy that wants you as far away from God’s ways as possible - because he knows how important they are.
Our Father doesn’t change.
He doesn’t waste His words.
He knows what’s best.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”
1 John 5:3
