I DISAPPEARED AND REAPPEARED

A post by Ebenezer Agbey Quist

Four years ago, a road accident happened right before my eyes. About four cars ahead of us crashed into each other.

Ours was the only one spared. It was a terrifying scene. Emotions were so high in the moment that everyone wanted a safe spot to be.

People were flying out of their respective cars before anything worse happened. My sprinter by this time got trapped whilst trying to bypass the four cars that were now stationary.

Yet, we could not move because a car door that was left open blocked the street, leaving too little space for us.

I looked to my right and realized that the vehicle right beside us was seriously fuming. A voice behind me shouted "it's going to explode".

He was obviously wrong but in that moment, it was the wisest and wildest saying ever. Fear gripped us. Here we were, unable to move and were about to be exploded!

Interestingly, all that our sprinter needed was for a passenger in front to reach out and close the car door that was hindering our progress.

But one by one, I saw them eject their way out of the car to the other side of the street. I wondered why they wouldn't just clear the way and save all of us.

Our car kept inching forward little by little and I got a free space to flee. The next thing I knew, I was on the other side of the street too. I had disappeared and reappeared. (Nothing spiritual; just hyperbole)

Then I looked back and realized that the point I exited was the very instant I was close enough to the car door I needed to close for myself and everyone after me to be safe.

However, when I got to that spot, the thought of saving all of us escaped me completely. I ended up doing the same thing I was angry those ahead of me were doing.

THE PROFOUND LESSON

When we are followers, we see a lot of misdeeds on the part of leadership.

Time and again, I've wondered why people will offer hope to the masses, speak their languages of pain but end up acting as the wicked predecessors when given the nod to lead.

My experience in the minor accident explained this to me.

Sometimes, upon reaching the top, people get exposed to opportunities and other realities that those behind don't see. Often, it makes changing the systems difficult.

And so in order to make things right, we must make the conscious effort to become the leaders we wished we had as followers.

More importantly, we must remember to look back at the masses.

Notice that although I repeated mistakes of those who went ahead of me, looking back made me realize my flaw.

OVERCOMING JEALOUSY IN RELATIONSHIPS

Jealousy is arguably one of the biggest challenges relationships face today.

So many people are going to unfathomable lengths to scrutinize their partner's moves and make sure nothing is going on on the side.

But this is the wrong way to approach the situation.

What is the right way?

Kindly make some time and watch this video for a profound revelation.

๐Ÿ”ฎ What Life Just Taught Me ๐Ÿ”ฎ

A post by Ebenezer Agbey Quist

The first time I ever went to Kumasi was when I was admitted for my undergraduate studies.

I arrived there at almost 4:00 am with my friend, Edudzi.

I don't know about my friend but I was quite nervous.

Here we were, two first-timers, arriving at an odd hour in an unknown land.

I feared that anything could happen, although we believed God heard our prayers for divine protection.

After we alighted from our bus, we spotted a taxi not too far away. It was the only one in sight. A man emerged from it and walked towards us to inquire where we were going.

It turned out, he was a deacon in the church both Edudzi and I attended. He was nice and took us straight to where we were going.

The Lesson

The driver was up at 4:00 am looking for passengers. We also arrived at 4:00 am looking for a driver.

Usually, in life, the things we are looking for are also looking for us.

There is a place in the world for your talent and dreams to fit in.

That beautiful idea you want to implement already has so many people waiting to be blessed by it.

Similarly, if you're realistic with your expectations, the exact kind of person you're looking to marry is also the kind on the lookout for you.

The only challenge is for us to position ourselves at the right places. Other drivers could have picked us too but they were not positioned at the right place at that time.

Of all the world cups that have ever been played, Brazil 2014 was the one I followed the most. I watched most of the matches.

In fact, during the game that Germany scored Brazil 7:1, I got teary-eyed. That's how absorbed I was in the competition.

When it was finally completed, I felt that I had seen so many kicks, tricks and strategies that I was in a place where I could play great football myself.

I went out one afternoon with a friend called Dzikorkoe to our former school, Anloga EP Basic School.

We saw a group of young boys playing football and just like me, Dzikorkoe also felt he was a world-class footballer.

We asked the boys for a pass, just so we could display some of the skills we were burning to exhibit.

I made a bet with my friend that there's no way I would miss a particular target. However, when I hit the ball, I missed the said target by a mile.

I was disappointed in myself. But that's not all. I was also confused. "How could I have watched so much of quality football and still be such a bad player?" I wondered.

THE LESSON

We don't get better at life by watching other people live theirs. We'll only make it by putting in the effort in our own lives.

This may sound like common sense but with the advent of social media, most of us only spend quality time watching other people live.

Watching or listening to them without making the conscious effort to practise the principles won't change anything.

Need I say more?

๐Ÿ”ฎ What Life Just Taught Me ๐Ÿ”ฎ

A post by Ebenezer Agbey Quist

In 2009, I was part of my junior high school choir that experienced great success. We won the interschool competition and were victorious at the zonal level as well.

We went for the regionals where we had to be camped, trained and sent to Kadjebi, several kilometers from home to compete.

For our journey to Kadjebi, we all got our items together. Many of us were leaving our parents for the first time. We had to prepare adequately.

I remember ironing all my clothes and arranging them nicely. I did so for my handkerchiefs too. I pressed them neatly and resolved to keep them spotless for as long as possible.

I was so fixated on maintaining my handkerchiefs that even at Kadjebi, I avoided touching them. I would only admire them in my bag at the end of each day. Even when I stepped out, I went without a handkerchief because I didn't want to get them dirty.

At our final event under a canopy, it began to drizzle. Some of our seats including mine didn't find space under the shed. We packed ourselves on one another to avoid being beaten.

Soon, the sky was clear and we needed to occupy our original seats. But THEY WERE ALL WET. Everyone around me reached into their pockets for their handkerchiefs to dry them up. But mine were still in my travelling bag, neat and spotless.

It took the timely intervention of a benevolent female colleague to save my face. She quickly cleaned my seat after hers, upon realizing I was behaving funnily.

The Lesson

My experience may sound really stupid and it actually is. In the bid to keep my hankies spotless, they became useless even when I needed them most.

This experience taught me that excessively seeking a life of zero disturbance is the enemy of the fulfilment of purpose.

The safest place an airplane can be is at the airport. But if it remains there, it will never fly and live out its purpose.

This principle applies to our lives as well. In order to live out our true purpose, we must be ready to break through our safest comfort zones.

๐Ÿ”ฎ What Life Just Taught Me ๐Ÿ”ฎ

A post by Ebenezer Agbey Quist

Have you crossed the street before? It can be interesting. I tried one the other day. Just when I was about to dash to the other side, I looked left and saw a car fast approaching.

I had to pause and allow it to pass. After it moved past me, the road was now clear. I marched into the street like King Kong.

It dawned on me a few moments later that if I had crossed four seconds earlier or seven seconds later, I would not be walking on both feet.

Is that not amazing? Every condition around me was exactly the same, but taking the same steps a few seconds apart could be the difference between life and death.

THE LESSON

In life, timing is crucial. Taking an action at a time not appointed for it can be disastrous.

It is true that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to making life work. People make the same choices at different times and things turn out fine.

But many aged people will tell you that having a child at a wrong time (either too early or too late) made life more difficult. And that's just one example.

They would tell you that chasing certain passions at the wrong times became some of their biggest mistakes.

We have only one chance at life. We must be able to recognize what the best choices for us are at each point in time and commit to making them work.

We shall make it. Amen.
