ERA: Myanmar

On 28th March an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hit 10 miles north-west of Myanmarโ€™s city Sagaing. The first earthquake struck at about 12:50 (06:20 GMT), a second earthquake struck 12 minutes later, with a magnitude of 6.4. Its epicentre was 18km (11 miles) south of Sagaing.

Aftershocks have continued since - the latest on Sunday was a magnitude-5.1 tremor north-west of Mandalay. It is estimated that around 10,000 people have been killed.

Our Elim Global Partner in Myanmar is based near Yangon, which seems to have been largely unaffected by the earthquake. The church there is working to support those affected by the earthquake.

Additionally our partners Samaritan's Purse are deploying into the region, bringing healthcare facilities and supplies along with other practical aid.

We are launching an ERA Appeal to raise money for this work.

To give to this appeal, head to our website.

Thank you.

Tonight is the Be Free Charity Ball!

We are partnering with Aspire (Elim's national women's ministry) to put on this ball to raise money for our Be Free Campaign.

Be Free is Elim Missions' stand against human exploitation. We work with partners in nations such as Cambodia, India and Pakistan to support people who have been victims of human exploitation, helping them to discover a hope and a future in Christ.

Last weekend we marked Missions Sunday - the day we remember the Elim Missionaries murdered in the Vumba Massacre on 23rd June 1978.

In his excellent book The Axe and the Tree, Stephen Griffiths, son of Peter and Brenda Griffiths who were part of the Vumba team but were at home in the UK at the time of the massacre, tells the full story.

Copies are available from the Elim Missions office.
