Daripada Abu Hurairah RA, Rasulullah SAW bersabda:
لا تَقُومُ السّاعَةُ حتّى يُقْبَضَ العِلْمُ، وتَكْثُرَ الزَّلازِلُ، ويَتَقارَبَ الزَّمانُ، وتَظْهَرَ الفِتَنُ، ويَكْثُرَ الهَرْجُ
Bermaksud: “Tidak akan berlakunya Kiamat sehingga diangkat ilmu, banyaknya berlaku gempa, masa berlalu dengan pantas, terzahirnya fitnah-fitnah dan banyaknya pembunuhan.” Riwayat al-Bukhari (1036)
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar berkata: Gempa telah banyak berlaku di belahan bumi Utara, Timur dan Barat, akan tetapi kelihatannya, yang dimaksudkan dengan banyaknya gempa adalah luasnya wilayah kejadiannya dan berlaku secara terus menerus. (Lihat Fath al-Bari, 25/286)
