ALLATRA and Creative Society at the International Human Rights Day in Bratislava

On December 9, 2024, the participants of the ALLATRA and Creative Society partner projects conducted a lecture on the topic "What is ALLATRA? Do you want to know the truth?" as part of the International Human Rights Day at the Peace Embassy of the Federation for Universal Peace in Bratislava, πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡°Slovakia.

πŸ“ During the presentation, the volunteers introduced the participants to the activities of the ALLATRA Movement in the direction of consolidating the public in solving global climate problems, promoting democratic values and principles of an open society.

Despite the diversity of life and professional experience, views and competencies, the volunteers of ALLATRA and Creative Society are united by a key factor β€” a deep awareness of responsibility to present and future generations for the world that we will leave them.

Special attention was paid to the importance of protecting the rights and freedoms of all people. Topics related to the study of global climate change, the need to raise awareness of its consequences and unite scientific and public efforts to protect the future of our civilization were also raised.

🟒 International Human Rights Day is a reminder of the importance of equality, justice and dignity for all people on Earth, which is an integral part of a democratic society.

πŸ“£On the anniversary of the Spitak earthquake, the participants of the partnership projects "ALLATRA" and "Creative Society" from Armenia organized a screening of the film "Spitak. The tragedy must not happen again" in cinemas, cultural centers and libraries in more than 30 settlements of Armenia, including on three regional TV channels. This project has become a reminder to all of us about the value of life and the importance of unity. In order for us and our children to avoid such catastrophes, active actions of each of us are needed!

πŸ“ˆ On December 7, 1988, an earthquake occurred in the city of Spitak, which claimed thousands of lives and destroyed the northern regions of Armenia. In just 30 seconds, powerful tremors turned multi-storey buildings into ruins, burying people under the rubble and changing the lives of entire generations. This tragedy has left a deep mark in the hearts of Armenians and in the history of the whole world.

36 years have passed, but the lessons of the past remain extremely relevant. In recent decades, the world has witnessed an increase in the frequency and severity of climate disasters, and this dangerous development continues to accelerate.

πŸ”΄How to prepare for possible disasters? What steps should be taken to prevent such tragedies? The answers to these questions became the basis of the documentary "Spitak. The tragedy must not happen again", created by participants of the "ALLATRA" International Public Movement from different countries.

On December 10, participants of the ALLATRA movement and representatives of initiatives uniting people of good celebrated an important date β€” the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

πŸ“œThe document, approved by the United Nations in 1948, became a key milestone in the protection of dignity, freedom and justice for every human being.

🌐 Today it is especially important for the world community to:
🟠strengthen human rights and freedoms
🟠strengthen democratic institutions to protect them.

The preservation of democracy is a shared responsibility of all of us.

A Warning Against Fatal Mistakes of the Past

❗️ After the end of World War II, humanity decided that the horrors of Nazism should never be repeated. In today's world, however, we are once again confronted with the hateful rhetoric of nearly a century ago.

πŸ“£ In this episode, we discuss how such phenomena are taking root in society today. We will explore the mechanisms that fuel public hatred and thereby justify the repression of entire populations. We will look at historical examples such as the Holocaust, the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda, and contemporary events. We will also talk about the rhetoric of hate and its impact on society, democracy and human rights.
