Ethereum moved from PoW to PoS, and that is being called a historical moment. What does it mean from environmental perspective?

Let’s remember the difference:

⛏ PoW — miners compete with miners to create new blocks and earn rewards, which requires extensive hardware, uses a lot of electricity, and not sustainable.
👛 PoS — validators secure the network by staking ETH. This way, it consumes less energy to create new blocks and earn rewards. 99.95% less, to be precise.

Prior to the Merge, Ethereum was doing up to 900 billion calculations per second. That is not needed anymore, which means drastic reduce of energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

So, apart of cutting the environmental impact, being one of the greenest chains means that:

- The entire NFT will benefit from The Merge by eliminating one of the most serious arguments against it.
- Now institutional investors may be more open to crypto as its ecological issue seems solvable.
- Ethereum confirms its the world’s second most valuable cryptocurrency title.

Could Ethereum become the first? We’ll see.

What? Is October already over? How nice that we still had time to prepare a report!

📈 Numbers

October was pretty tough. BTC difficulty increased by 16%, while uptime was 10 hours on weekdays. Reducing the uptime is actually works! Interesting to look at the results in November with the uptime being 14 hours.

Hypothetical results with 100% uptime
Mined: 6,2312 BTC (120 451 USD)
Electricity cost: 139 087 USD
Net profit: -18 636 USD

Actual results with 65% uptime:
Mined: 3,6813 BTC (71 148 USD)
