Amanda's Work

Amanda goes to work every day. She works in an office. She works very hard. She starts and 7 o’clock in the morning and finishes at 10 o’clock at night. She likes her work, and she wants to be a good worker, but she has one problem. Her boss is not a very good boss.
آماندا هر روز سر کار می رود. او در یک دفتر کار می کند. او خیلی سخت کار می کند. او ساعت 7 صبح شروع می کند و ساعت ساعت 10 شب (کارش را) تمام می کند. او کارش را دوست دارد، و او می خواهد کارمند خوبی باشد، اما او یک مشکل دارد. رئیس او رئیس خیلی خوبی نیست.
He tells her to do one thing, and then he changes his mind. He tells her to do another thing, and then he changes his mind again. He tells her to do something else, and again, changes his mind. Amanda doesn’t like this. She says, “This is a waste of time!”

Amanda’s boss listens to her. He sees that she is right. He promises to listen to her advice.

Now Amanda is happy. She comes to work every day. She starts at 7 o’clock and finishes at 4 o’clock, but she completes much more things than before! Amanda and her boss are happy.

The Grumpy Tree

There was once a grumpy tree. It was the biggest tree in the forest, and it didn’t need its shadow for anything. However, the tree would never share its shadow with any of the animals, and wouldn’t let them come anywhere near.
روزی روزگاری درخت بدخلقی وجود داشت. او، بزرگ‌ترین درخت جنگل بود. و سایه‌اش را برای هیچ‌چیزی نیاز نداشت. اما این درخت هیچ‌وقت سایه‌اش را با حیوانات دیگر تقسیم نمیکرد. و اجازه نمیداد که آن‌ها حتی نزدیکش بشوند.
One year, the autumn and winter were terrible, and the tree, without its leaves, was going to die of cold. A little girl, who went to live with her grandma that winter, found the tree shivering, so she went to get a great big scarf to warm the tree up. The Spirit of the Forest appeared and told the little girl why that tree was so solitary, and why no one would help him. Even so, the girl decided to put the scarf on the tree.
یک سال، پاییز و زمستان بسیار وحشتناک بود. و درخت، بدون برگ‌هایش داشت از سرما میمرد.یک دختر کوچک که آن زمستان رفته بود که با مادربزرگش زندگی کند، آن درخت را در حال لرزید نیافت. برای همین رفت کهیک شال به دست بیاورد که درخت را گرم کند. روح جنگل پدیدار شد و به آن دختر گفت که چرا آن درخت آن‌قدر تنها بود؛ و چرا هیچ‌کسی کمکش نمیکرد. بااین‌حال، دختر تصمیم گرفت که شال را روی درخت بیندازد.
The next springtime, the tree had learned from the girl’s generosity, and when she sat next to the trunk the tree bent down to shade her from the sun. The Spirit of the Forest saw this and went to tell all the animals. He told them that from then on they would be able to shade themselves well, because the tree had learned that having kind and generous beings around makes the world a much better place to live in.
فصل بهار بعدی، درخت از سخاوت دختریاد گرفت. و وقتیکه او کنار تنه‌ی درخت نشست، درخت خم شد و روی دختر سایه انداخت. (نکته‌ی انحرافی: هر چه فکر کردم نتوانستم معادل فارسی خوبی برای جمله‌ی shade her from the sun پیدا کنم!). روح جنگل این موضوع را دید و رفت که به بقیه‌ی حیوانات بگوید. او به آن‌ها گفت که از این به بعد میتوانند از سایه‌ی درخت استفاده کنند. زیرا درختیاد گرفته بود که داشتن موجوداتی سخاوتمند و مهربان دوروبر خود دنیا را جای بهتری برای زندگی میکند.

Once upon a time there was a brave knight called George. George had lots of adventures as he travelled by horse across many lands.
روزی روزگاری شوالیه شجاعی به نام جورج زندگی می‌کرد. جورج سوار بر اسبش از سرزمین‌های زیادی عبور کرده و ماجراهای بسیاری داشت.
One day he came to a small village and met a man who lived in a cave next to the village.
روزی او به روستای کوچکی رسید و مردی را دید که در غاری نزدیک روستا زندگی می‌کرد.
The hermit told the knight about the awful things that were happening there. A terrible dragon had come to live in the lake and attacked the village every day.
مرد غارنشین اتفاقات وحشتناکی که در آنجا افتاده بود برای شوالیه تعریف کرد. اژدهای وحشتناکی برای زندگی به دریاچه آمده بود و هرروز به روستا حمله می‌کرد.
The villagers didn’t know what to do. First, they gave the dragon all their food, but the dragon just took the food and still attacked the village.
مردم روستا نمی‌دانستند چه کنند. اول، همه‌ی خوراکی‌ها و غذاهایشان را به اژدها دادند اما اژدها غذاهایشان را خورد و باز هم به مردم روستا حمله می‌کرد.
So then the villagers gave the dragon all the animals from their farms. The dragon took all the animals, but continued to attack the villagers.
سپس همه حیوانات مزرعه‌هایشان را به اژدها دادند. اژدها همه حیوانات را خورد ولی باز هم به حمله‌هایش به مردم روستا ادامه داد.
So then they gave the dragon all their gold and jewels. The dragon took all their money, but still was not satisfied.
سپس مردم همه طلاها و جواهراتشان را به اژدها بخشیدند اما او باز هم راضی نشد.
The king sent his army to try and capture the dragon, but the dragon was too strong and the knights of the army were too scared and they ran away.
پادشاه ارتش خود را برای گرفتن اژدها فرستاد اما اژدها خیلی قوی بود و شوالیه‌های ارتش خیلی ترسیدند و فرار کردند.
With nothing left to give, the king could only think of one thing to help protect his people. He sent his only daughter, the princess, to the lake to wait for the dragon.
پادشاه که دیگر هیچ‌چیزی نداشت که به اژدها بدهد برای حفاظت از مردم روستا به یک‌چیز فکر کرد. او تنها دخترش را به دریاچه فرستاد تا در انتظار اژدها بماند.
When George heard this he rode as fast as he could to the lake. Just then the dragon jumped out from the lake and was going to eat the princess.
وقتی جورج این‌ها را شنید، با نهایت سرعت به سمت دریاچه تاخت. در همان لحظه بود که اژدها از دریاچه بیرون آمد تا شاهزاده را بخورد.
George attacked the dragon. He fought very bravely, won the fight and killed the dragon. George and the princess returned to the village and everyone was very pleased that they would have no more problems with the dragon.
جورج به اژدها حمله کرد. او شجاعانه با اژدها جنگید و پیروز شد و اژدها را کشت. جورج و شاهزاده خانم به روستا برگشتند و همه از اینکه دیگر اژدها برایشان مشکل درست نمی‌کند خوشحال بودند.
Today, the story of George’s bravery is remembered and George is known as the patron saint of many countries.
امروزه همه داستان شجاعت جورج را به یاد دارند و جورج قدیس حامی بسیاری از کشورها است.
