๐ŸฅคDo you know that by changing to strawless lids for cups, it has reduced 19 million and 10 million straws annually for McDonald's and Koufu respectively?

๐Ÿฅก This year's edition of the Hungry for Change Challenge organised by DBS Foundation and NEA seeks to empower youth to develop and pilot innovative solutions to address issues faced by Koufu, McDonald's and The Social Kitchen in managing food and food packaging waste.

๐Ÿ’กFind out more from their website on how better food waste segregation, innovation in food packaging and a shift in consumer mindset towards food & packaging will help these corporates.

โœ๏ธ If you have a solution for them, submit your proposal by 31 October on the Hungry for Change website to receive up to SGD 100,000 from DBS Foundation to pilot your solutions!

Hello groundup friends!

We are happy to share the launch of BAGUS (Building All Groundups for Success) Together as of 18 January 2024. With partners, Tote Board and Temasek Foundation, the work at Groundup Central will be enhanced in this new initiative that will mark a transformation in NVPCโ€™s role within the groundup ecosystem as we seek to empower local groundups like you all in creating greater social impact in your communities!

We are excited to share upcoming programmes in the months to come so stay tuned for more! Check out our BAGUS Together website for more information: bagustogether.sg
We observe many good deeds every day, but what makes some take the extra step of setting up a sustained programme that addresses needs that they observe? What the groundup founders have in common is a broad and stable confidence in their abilities to deal with different situations and achieve specific goals; and they are primarily motivated by the proactive choice and enjoyment in taking up the initiatives.

Age is no issue! Young or old, one can start a groundup at any age. Groundup initiatives are not entirely a youth movement: about one-third of the founders are 40 years old and above!

React with a heart โค๏ธ to show your support for the courage of groundup founders!

Embedded in communities, groundups also view their purpose as primarily community-focused. The Groundup Initiative Study survey results showed that an overwhelming majority of groundups identified community building and development as their cause area (73%), followed by social and welfare (29%), environment (25%) and education (14%). Geographic communities (for example, a few adjacent HDB blocks in Woodlands) is among the top target groups served by groundups (32.5%), followed by elderly (10.7%), low-income families (8.6%), and youth (7.7%).

โ€œThis is not just Charity; this is about Change.โ€

To celebrate the launch of BAGUS Together, we held our inaugural BAGUS Speaker Series on Tuesday night where we had the privilege of inviting Sara Lomelin, the Founding CEO of Philanthropy Together, to share with us about her giving journey. From starting her first Giving Circle with a group of Latina moms to leading Philanthropy Together and training more than 600 community leaders to create their Giving Circles, Sara is experienced in growing and scaling social impact.

It was a cozy night of fun and learning, and a warm reminder not to overthink giving โ€“ start by finding a few people who share the same passion watch it grow through a ripple effect! Tips she shared include growing the diversity among its members, thinking about succession early, and most importantly, helping members find the joy in giving.

State of Play, held as part of the City of Good Summit, was a blast! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

BAGUS Together helped to identify some groundups to be featured at Company of Goodโ€™s State of Play on 22 February โ€“ it was an opportunity for companies to know new and different community partners, serving a variety of needs and providing an opportunity for corporates to express their interest to volunteer with these groundups. Weโ€™re proud of Outdoor Sport Kakis, Her Rise Above and Soundball SG who set up booths to display their upcoming volunteering opportunities to reach out to corporate volunteers, and look forward to more of such platforms ahead!
