The groundup was formed in 2015, by a group of youths who are passionate about making positive changes to the climate landscape. In 2015, Syazana found herself seeking support after suffering physical and emotional abuse from a family member, but couldn't find a group that addressed her needs.

β€œA lot of survivors want a kind of normalcy in our lives," she shares, "so while focus groups are important and help you tend to your specific issues, we don’t really want to be labeled as β€˜the other’. We still want to integrate and move on with our lives; we can’t do it alone, the community needs to know we exist and everybody has a part to play.”
