Bootstrapping Yourself 101:
Youβre not βcheatingβ to force yourself to find things to be grateful for. I think sometimes people discount the act of seeking out things to be happy about as if it somehow doesnβt count because you had to think about it for a hot minute. Because it didnβt naturally occur to you to be thankful. (Pssst - you werenβt conditioned to be thankful. You were conditioned to feel lack, want and fear. This is how you undo it.)
Itβs just silly to think you donβt need to be re-trained. And if itβs hard for you to find things to be grateful about, ok. That just means youβre having a bit of a hard time and you need to focus your mind. If youβre depressed, itβs really hard to do. Believe me, Iβve been there! Itβs not faking anything to need to dig for something positive to focus on. Thatβs taking control of your thought patterns!
Take a moment to actively think about what makes you feel gratitude and Love. It doesnβt matter what it is, only that you cultivate the feeling.
Sometimes, I am simply grateful for the shoes on my feet, the breath coming in and out of my body, or the Sun on my face. Whatever it is, just set aside all the things you might want to bitch about or that you are struggling with, and focus on the positive. I GUARANTEE itβs there, you just have to calm down enough to see it. And when you can find the positive even within your struggles, then youβre really getting somewhere. But in the meantime, just hone in on whatever you are grateful for. No matter how small or insignificant that thing might be - Focus on it. Love it. Thank God and the Universe for itβ¦. And it will grow bigger. This usually takes a bit of time, but you are not in charge of how long it takes. Only that you do it. And as you do, you will attract more good things to you and this little exercise will get easier and easier.
