Bootstrapping Yourself 101:

You’re not β€œcheating” to force yourself to find things to be grateful for. I think sometimes people discount the act of seeking out things to be happy about as if it somehow doesn’t count because you had to think about it for a hot minute. Because it didn’t naturally occur to you to be thankful. (Pssst - you weren’t conditioned to be thankful. You were conditioned to feel lack, want and fear. This is how you undo it.)

It’s just silly to think you don’t need to be re-trained. And if it’s hard for you to find things to be grateful about, ok. That just means you’re having a bit of a hard time and you need to focus your mind. If you’re depressed, it’s really hard to do. Believe me, I’ve been there! It’s not faking anything to need to dig for something positive to focus on. That’s taking control of your thought patterns!

Take a moment to actively think about what makes you feel gratitude and Love. It doesn’t matter what it is, only that you cultivate the feeling.
Sometimes, I am simply grateful for the shoes on my feet, the breath coming in and out of my body, or the Sun on my face. Whatever it is, just set aside all the things you might want to bitch about or that you are struggling with, and focus on the positive. I GUARANTEE it’s there, you just have to calm down enough to see it. And when you can find the positive even within your struggles, then you’re really getting somewhere. But in the meantime, just hone in on whatever you are grateful for. No matter how small or insignificant that thing might be - Focus on it. Love it. Thank God and the Universe for it…. And it will grow bigger. This usually takes a bit of time, but you are not in charge of how long it takes. Only that you do it. And as you do, you will attract more good things to you and this little exercise will get easier and easier.
