The Power of the Right Choices (Or Why You Should Always Invest in Education)
Not long ago, I had a conversation with one of my relatives—let’s call her Madina, just for the sake of example. She told me she didn’t know what to do with her life and complained about the lack of money. She wasn’t happy with her job or her salary.
I usually avoid giving advice unless someone genuinely wants it. But this time, I suggested she take a course in “X,” improve her skills, and apply for a better job.
Her response?
I didn’t argue.
Two days later, Madina posted something on her Telegram channel—a cheerful video showing off her new clothes from Ozon and Wildberries. In her “mini haul,” she proudly mentioned the price: 3,000,000 sum. She looked genuinely thrilled.
I looked at her post and smiled.
No money for the course? I thought. Well…
Fast-forward three months. I met Madina again. She told me she’d been made redundant. She’d applied for a new job, but they didn’t accept her—she lacked the required skills. Now, she’s unemployed and desperately searching for something better.
I didn’t say anything. Again.
Just recently, she messaged me to congratulate me on my recent achievement. “Wow, amazing! You got such a great result and even won money! You’re so damn lucky!”
I thanked her.
But was I lucky?
I don’t think so. I was simply pragmatic.
Instead of buying new clothes, I chose to invest in my education. Since the day I started working, I’ve always set aside a part of my budget for learning. It could be English, photography, German—whatever sparked my curiosity at the time. I’ve always believed that investing in education is never a mistake.
Even last month, I bought two courses in English (each costing $200) and spent another $200 on practice sessions with native speakers.
I told myself I wouldn’t buy any new courses this summer. But then… I received an email invitation to a teaching course run by a linguist I’ve been following for years.
When my mom saw it, she said, “What else can you possibly learn in English?”
I just shrugged and smiled. “Sky’s the limit.”
The point is simple:
Choose to invest your time and money in the right things, and you’ll never regret it.
And as someone I deeply respect once told me (and he’ll smile if he reads this):
