US stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors led shares lower. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 5.50% to hit a new 6-months low, while the S&P 500 index declined 5.98%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 5.82%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2,610 to 238 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,843 fell and 499 advanced, while 86 ended unchanged. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.91% to hit a new 6-months low, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.23%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.10%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2,512 to 338 and 17 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,279 fell and 1,076 advanced, while 79 ended unchanged.
