About This Webinar
Notwithstanding the 90-day truce on tariff escalation, we expect Sino-US relations continue to face challenges. We expect the US to eventually impose tariffs on Chinese goods that are closer to the 60% and restrictions over semiconductor equipment and design software will be tightened further to blunt China’s competitiveness. US’ approach to China has not changed.

CIO Series 26: Hong Kong +20% YTD – What’s Next?

🗓️ Wednesday, 30 July 2025
4.30pm - 5.30pm
🗣️ English

REGISTER NOW: CIO SERIES 26

Despite rising tariffs and macro headwinds, the Hong Kong stock market has surged ahead with a return of over 20% YTD. Sector-wise, Healthcare, Materials (particularly gold), and Financials have done particularly well. However, at least two things stand out amid the current rally: (1) The high-beta Tech sector has barely outperformed the market. (2) China A-shares continue to underperform H-shares, which is unusual in a typical bull market.

About This Webinar
While the FBMKLCI has partly reversed some of its 2024’s regional outperformance in 1H25 (having fallen 8.3% and 2.8% in local currency and US dollar terms respectively), as the US Trump administration’s over-bearing and erratic US import tariff threats drove up risk aversion in emerging countries, the FBMKLCI is being re-energised for outperformance in 2H25 amid a calmer global investment sentiment.
