US stocks were mixed after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.59% to hit a new all-time high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.00%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.21%. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1,928 to 880 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1,974 rose and 1,284 declined, while 157 ended unchanged. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.55% to hit a new all-time high, while the S&P 500 index added 1.01%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.10%. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1,838 to 970 and 103 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,004 rose and 1,285 declined, while 141 ended unchanged.
