TNS MARKET ROUNDUP: Stocks, Rupee, Bond end up on upbeat Economic Survey report

STOCKS:
The Indian stock indices, Nifty and Sensex ended up on Monday on taking positive cues from global markets and favourable takeaways from the Economic Survey report. The market rallied ahead of the Budget day with all major sectors ending in the green. The major macro indicators of the survey gave confidence that the country is well placed to face future challenges with GDP growth for FY23 projected at 8-8.5%. The 30-share Sensex closed 813.94 points or 1.42% higher at 58,014.17 on the BSE, while the 50-stock Nifty gained 237.90 points or 1.39% to close at 17,339.85 on the NSE.

EUROPEAN STOCKS:
European stocks were higher on Monday, the last trading day of January, as investors kept an eye on political developments between Russia and Ukraine as well as inflation data,CNBC reported on Monday.
US stock futures were mixed in early morning trading on Monday as investors braced for the final trading day in what could be the worst month for the S&P 500 since March 2020.

The Indian currency ended up on IPO related inflows and inflows into local stocks as Economic Survey projects upbeat GDP growth in FY23

The premium on dollar/rupee forward contract maturing in one year ended higher on Monday as some importers paid in forward taking advantage of appreciation in Indian rupee, dealers said.
On annualised basis, premium on one year exact month dollar/rupee contract ended at 4.54% on Monday versus 4.51% at close on Friday.

GILTS:
Government bond prices ended up on Monday after the Reserve Bank of India bought G-sec worth Rs 1,19,701 crore from the Government of India. Dealers also added that bonds prices extended gain after the Economic Survey reported that the central government is well on track to meet its fiscal deficit target for FY22.
The 6.10%-2031 bond ended at Rs 95.9600 or 6.6829% yield compared with Rs 95.7000 or 6.7215% yield at open on Monday and Rs 95.4900 or 6.7527% yield at close on Friday.

US stocks closed higher on Monday, at the end of a volatile month for Wall Street where the tech-heavy Nasdaq narrowly avoided its worst ever start to the year and the S&P 500 recorded its weakest January performance since 2009.
At close, Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.17% to 35,131.86, the S&P 500 gained 1.89% to 4,515.55 and the Nasdaq Composite added 3.41%, to 14,239.88.

The Indian stock indices, Nifty and Sensex ended up on Wednesday as the domestic market continued its bull ride for the second trading sessison tracking budget cues and positive sentiments from global markets. Most sectors remained green while banking and finance stocks contributed most to the gain. The 30-share Sensex closed 695.76 points or 1.18% higher at 59,558.33 on the BSE, while the 50-stock Nifty gained 203.15 points or 1.16% to close at 17,780.00 on the NSE.

European stocks moved higher on Wednesday amid positive momentum in global markets, CNBC reported on Wednesday.

RUPEE:
The Indian currency ended down Wednesday due to oil importers dollar demand ahead of OPEC plus meeting and geo-political tensions. Adding to this, the higher than expected fiscal deficit for this year and next too continue to weigh on the local currency.

Government bond prices ended down on Wednesday after the government set high net market borrowing target for FY23 following the higher than expected fiscal deficit target for the current fiscal year. Rising oil prices too supported the selloff in gilts. Further, the lack of announcement on tax exemptions to incentivize inclusion of Indian bonds on global indices too added to the bond dealers woes.
The 6.10%-2031 bond traded at Rs 94.4250 or 6.9130% yield compared with Rs 94.6125 or 6.8847% yield at open on Wednesday and Rs 94.8700 or 6.8458% yield at close on Tuesday.
