Burnley & Accrington Residents Associations: Working Together Against Battery Energy Storage Sites

Burnley and Accrington Residents Associations have been working together to oppose two Battery Energy Storage Sites (BESS) in their local areas.
These sites will contain Lithium storage cells, supposedly to harness energy generated from solar panels. Lithium batteries pose a risk to health and environment and are know to be unstable and extremely volatile in a fire.
One site in Reedley, Burnley would pose a hazard as it is near to a gas pipe. The other site is in Oswaldtwistle on greenbelt land.
Norna from Burnley RA and Chris from Accrington RA teamed up with other representatives to do some public outreach in Burnley Town Centre on 15th and 22nd January 2025. Meanwhile, Chris from Accrington RA has had an article on BESS printed in two local papers. (Links to articles below)
