There has been a significant increase in hotspots in Sumatra, with 212 hotspots detected on 6 Oct. There is a likelihood of haze affecting Singapore over this weekend, if the fires persist and winds direction remains unfavourable.
NEA will provide daily haze advisories from 7 Oct. Current and forecasted air quality readings as well as NEA’s daily haze advisory are available on haze.gov.sg, nea.gov.sg, and the myENV app.

When deciding whether to go ahead with strenuous or outdoor activities over the next few hours, refer to the 1-hour PM2.5 readings.
If you’re planning for the next day, refer to the 24-hour PSI forecast and corresponding health advisory.

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) had first entered the Unhealthy range at 7am this morning in the east region. This was followed by the central region entering the Unhealthy range at 11am.
The Government’s interagency Haze Task Force convened this morning. Task Force agencies have rolled out their respective action plans and advisories for the protection of the health and well-being of the public. More details: https://go.gov.sg/htf-7oct
The health impact of haze is dependent on individuals’ health status, the PSI level, and the duration and intensity of outdoor activity. N95 masks are not required for short exposure, like commuting from home to school or work, or in an indoor environment. FAQs on health advisory are available at: go.gov.sg/hazefaqs-healthadvisory

Haze Situation Update (8 October 2023) – The haze situation in Singapore improved today. As at 5pm, the 1-hr PM2.5 concentration readings were 10-18 µg/m3, in Band I (Normal), and the 24-hr PSI was 57-86, in the Moderate range.
Dry conditions persisted over most parts of Singapore and the surrounding region. 68 hotspots were detected mostly over the southern and central parts of Sumatra today, lower than the 188 hotspots detected yesterday. Moderate to dense smoke haze was observed from satellite imagery over central and southern Sumatra, blowing towards the northwest by prevailing winds.
The prevailing winds are forecast to blow mainly from the east tomorrow, lowering the likelihood of transboundary haze affecting Singapore. Showers are also expected over Singapore and the surrounding region which could bring about some improvement to the regional haze situation. For the next 24 hours, the 24-hr PSI for Singapore is forecast to be in the Moderate range.

Haze Situation Update (9 October 2023) – There were thundery showers over many areas in Singapore this afternoon. As at 5pm, the 1-hr PM2.5 concentration readings were 18-40 µg/m3, in Band I (Normal), and the 24-hr PSI was 55-73, in the Moderate range.
Wetter conditions were observed over many parts of the surrounding region today. Due to thick cloud cover, hotspots and smoke plumes could not be detected over Sumatra from satellite imagery today.
While the prevailing winds are expected to blow mainly from the south or southwest tomorrow, showers in the region will help to improve the hotspot and haze situation in Sumatra. The likelihood of transboundary haze affecting Singapore is thus low. For the next 24 hours, the 24-hr PSI for Singapore is forecast to be in the Moderate range.
