While an impending thunderstorm looms, blue skies and fluffy clouds shine through in the distance. Tag us in your #SGWeathergrams posts on Facebook & Instagram so we can share it on #WeatherWednesdays. :)

#PSA The message alleging that volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Sinabung will affect SG in the next few days is NOT true. The volcanic ash cloud was blown east-northeastward and SG was not affected. The eruption has ceased. www.facebook.com/NEASingapore/posts/2680936948794302
If you live in a dengue cluster area or area with more Aedes mosquitoes, apply mosquito repellent regularly, as you have a higher risk of getting bitten and infected with the Dengue virus. Here are some guidelines on using repellent effectively and safely.

We have seen sun showers before, but where do the raindrops come from? These raindrops are actually from nearby thunderstorms that are brought over by the wind.

#FunFact In the Japanese culture, it is believed to be the result of two fox spirits getting married. #WeatherWednesday
We may have plans to go out with friends today (because #FriYAY) but let’s not forget to keep our distance when queuing to get into eateries and malls to help stop the spread of COVID-19. #SGUnited
#SGDengueUpdate 50% less mosquito breeding was detected in Town Council-managed areas in Aug, compared to in Jul, after 2-week intensive islandwide vector control efforts with Town Councils to combat dengue. However, the number of weekly cases remain high at above 1,000, and it is critical for all of us to do our part in the fight against dengue – here’s how: www.nea.gov.sg/stop-dengue
Planning dinner with your friends? Due to #SafeDistancing, there may be limited seating capacity at many places, so call in advance to make reservations first. Otherwise, opt for takeaway (bring your own containers!) or delivery 😊 #SGUnited #FightCOVID19
#SGDengueUpdate Though there were 208 dengue cases fewer compared to in the previous week, the weekly number of reported dengue cases remains high at 946. Learn more about dengue operations and what you can do to protect your family here: www.facebook.com/gracefu.hy/posts/339064654118755
From 12 Sep 2020, weekend visitors to the 4 popular markets (Geylang Serai Market, Chong Pang Market, Block 20/21 Marsiling Lane, and Block 505 Jurong West Street 52) will not be subject to the odd/even date entry restriction. However, the caps on the number of patrons allowed in the market at any one time will still be in place, to ensure sufficient #SafeDistancing. Besides doing the #MozzieWipeout, take these 3 simple actions to protect yourself and your loved ones, especially if you live in a dengue cluster area: Spray, Apply, Wear. More tips here: www.nea.gov.sg/stop-dengue
#SGDengueUpdate 55% less Aedes mosquito breeding was detected at constructions sites in Aug compared to Jul, but there are still some sites with multiple mosquito breeding habitats, and habitats with profuse breeding or repeated breeding. Enforcement actions will be taken against these sites. If you see any potential mosquito breeding spots, contact us at www.nea.gov.sg/feedback, or through the myENV app (www.nea.gov.sg/myenv). Let’s fight dengue together!
We love that many of you are recycling, but have you been doing it right? Big carton boxes can be difficult to fit into the blue recycling bins. Instead of leaving them next to the bin, fold or cut them up so that they can be placed IN the bins! #RecycleRight
Hello Halo! Did you spot it this afternoon? These faint coloured rings encircling the sun are formed by the refraction of the light through ice crystals in high-level clouds under relatively clear conditions. #SGWeathergrams #SGWeather
#SGDengueUpdate It’s the 6th consecutive week with a decline in the number of weekly dengue cases! However, the number of cases remains high at 674 - more than double the number in the corresponding week last year. Let’s continue doing our part to sustain the downward momentum: www.nea.gov.sg/stop-dengue
Think it’s impossible for mosquito eggs to hatch in your dish tray, mere inches away from your cups and plates? It certainly isn’t. All mosquitoes need is a 20 cent-sized drop of water to breed. Time to do a thorough check in your house! #MozzieWipeout https://go.gov.sg/dengue-checklist
Thinking of getting a ultraviolet-C (UVC) steriliser for home use? Don’t!

If proper protection measures are not taken, UVC radiation can cause eye and skin injuries. A more effective method is to wipe down surfaces with a disinfectant. The full advisory on the use of UVC sterilisers in the home is available at www.nea.gov.sg/our-services/radiation-safety/advisory-on-the-use-of-uvc-sterilisers-in-the-home
The number of weekly dengue cases has declined by more than 50% from its peak this year. However, a 12% increase in the Aedes aegypti mosquito population was detected in the last 3 weeks.

So let’s not let our guard down; continue doing the #MozzieWipeout at least once a week and taking protective actions (go.gov.sg/stopdenguenow). You can also get regular alerts on areas with higher Aedes mosquito population and dengue clusters on myENV app (www.nea.gov.sg/myENV) with this step-by-step guide!
