In 1 day, the Christmas Countdown begins …. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🥹🥳🥳🥳😊 it’s Jesus’ Birthday 🎉 Remembrance!!!

It’s one of the best times of the year for me.

Looking forward to some real deal home-cooked Christmas Food 🥘 Pepperpot with Cassava Bread or tennis rolls 🍞, Garlic Pork 🐖, Roasted honey glazed Ham, Sorrel and ginger beer 🍻, vermicelli, cassava pone all things Guyana 🇬🇾 and loud Caribbean Vibes Christmas Music.

There was a time I looked forward to Stretch Out Magazine (show), Signs of the Times (show) and the Overseas greetings (always entertaining) do they still do that? Hmm 🤔

Most of all, I’m super glad Jesus was born and He came to save the lost world 🌎.

Turning up for Jesus!! 🎊 🎉 in church 12/25 … after all, he turns up for me every time I call on Him.

Welcome to February 2023

PRAY WITH ME:

O God my God,
shield me on all sides;
Ground my feet,
lift my head high.

With all my might
when I shout up to God,
In this new month,
His answers will thunder
from the holy mountain.

Arise, O Lord!
Rescue me from every trap of the enemy set for the womb of my February 2023. By Your love oh God, I shall escape daily!

Instead of me, You slap all my enemies in the face and shatter the teeth of the wicked - that they may think twice before they touch me, Your beloved.

After all, real help and victory comes from you, Yahweh.

Today's Valentine's Day in many parts of the world - celebrated as a day of love and romance.

Did you know that the day's originally observed in honor of Saint Valentine of Terni, who was assassinated by Roman Emperor Claudius II? He was a priest who was supposedly known for secretly performing Christian marriages for Roman troops as well as preaching Christianity before it was legal. He was placed under house arrest as he refused to stop & renounce his faith. While serving jail time, St. Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter, whose sight was restored through prayer. The house converted, believing in the power of God. When the news reached the emperor, Valentine was executed on Feb. 14. On that fateful day, he sent his love a farewell note: 'From your Valentine'.

Later, the church made the festival a Christian celebration in remembrance of St. Valentine's love for God and people.

May this day find us wrapped in the unending transforming love of Yahweh because of Jesus.

Part 2 #Storytime

It's believed that there were many Saints named Valentine who were martyered during the early 17th century. A common legend states that the one I shared about - St. Valentine of Terni really defied the emperor’s orders by secretly marrying couples to spare the husbands from war. It is for this reason that his feast day is also associated with love.

I am glad for the era and time in which I was born, sheesh.

Anyhoos here are some more interesting historical timelines:

💌 Formal messages or "valentine notes", appeared in the 1500s, and by the late 1700s commercially printed cards were being used.

🇺🇸 The United States of America printed its first commercial valentines in the mid-1800s.

Valentines commonly depict Cupid, the Roman god of love, along with hearts, traditionally the seat of emotion - (by the way, this is partly why some Christians have moved away or do not celebrate Valentine's Day, because it's giving "pagan vibes", you be the judge of why you celebrate).

Valentine's happens around mid-February, so it was thought that the since avian mating season begins around then, birds also became a symbol of the day. (Hence we have "Love Birds" - interesting right?)

💝 Traditional gifts include candy and flowers, particularly red roses 🌹- a symbol of beauty and love.

Fast forward centuries later, Valentine's Day celebrations have evolved quite a bit from its origins, and is now popular around the world as the "Day of Love" especially in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Argentina, France, Mexico, South Korea, South America, the Caribbean, and in the Philippines it is the most common wedding anniversary, and mass weddings of hundreds of couples are not uncommon on that date.

The holiday has expanded to expressions of affection among relatives and friends. (We cannot leave the singles out, hello 😉 😘 , we love on our families, friends and for me God as little more than usual)

Hopefully this little missive has been intriguing to you as it was for me and you had a fabulous Valentine's 2023.

All in all, it is what you make it.

God is love, without him, love cannot be love. If I were to go back to the particilar origin that I shared, I see that the whole celebration came to be because 1 Priest had a desire to see the love for God expressed in and between man and woman. It cost him his life but saved many from war and fueled a worldwide phenomenon now called "Day of Love".

Give thanks for the grace to see the beginning, thrive during, and to see the end in our right minds, alive, not displaced and able to have our senses fully functioning.

Sometimes, it's the little things that are big things ... stay empowered.
