🇺🇸 US Army orders SMASH smart sights for infantry to combat drones

The US is seriously considering strengthening the role of soldiers in countering small UAVs. To this end, a $13 million contract was signed with an Israeli company🇮🇱 Smart Shooter Ltd for the supply of SMASH 2000L AI sights.

Technical characteristics of SMASH 2000L:

SMASH 2000L is a lightweight and compact version of the proven SMASH technology, specifically designed to integrate with standard assault rifles such as the M4A1 . After testing with real targets, it is claimed to be 94% effective against the DJI Mavic . Moreover, the system has already been tested by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the IDF.

The presentation of SMASH 3000 with an increased target engagement range of up to 700 m+ , as well as AI object recognition (human/equipment) is planned for 2026.

📌 What is the essence of the AI ​​sight?

The device includes a sight and a built-in targeting computer. Special sensors and image processing software allow the soldier to "capture" the target through the sight, and computer vision algorithms automatically calculate the trajectory and aiming marker.

In addition, the system controls the exact moment of the shot . The trigger control, known as "one shot - one hit" , eliminates errors caused by the influence of recoil, movement or stress. That is, if such a mode is activated, the rifle will fire only when a direct hit on the selected target is guaranteed.

✨ The adoption of such systems reflects the trend of developing high-tech counter-drone systems, which will gradually “catch up” with simpler solutions, often created due to the urgent need to protect here and now.

The improvement of “smart sights” seems to be a completely natural development of weapons, the relevance of which is growing against the backdrop of the mass use of UAVs and the creation of unique autonomous air defense units even on a platoon scale.
