🔎 The tweet would be "contrary to the French law" according to the email and indeed, the very convenient article 222-33-3 of the French Penal Code stipulates that «broadcasting or recording images of acts of barbarism or violence is punishable by five years' imprisonment and a fine of 75,000 euros, with the exception of journalists and legal professionals in the exercise of their duties».

✍️ Addendum regarding censorship: we have no plan to obey any such kind of law.
We have in past leaked exclusive infos on French arms deal or posted pictures from terror attacks without any repercussion from Telegram.
We will simply keep on posting everything we deem relevant, and if Telegram ever reach out to us, we'll delete what will probably be weeks old videos that have already reached their audience.
If censorship of the sort does happens, we'll definitely let you know.

Do you think this is a deliberate measure to try and stifle the riots in France? The timing is rather convenient 🤔

👉🏻 The French government has questioned its telecom operators (Orange, Bouygues, SFR, Free), asking them if it was "technically possible" for them to cut off mobile data, 4G and 5G, in certain neighborhoods in France.
Suggested by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, it would be to prevent rioters in the streets from communicating together, except at home trough Wifi.
In return, telecom operators immediately informed the government that cutting off such access was "technically unfeasible tonight", but "feasible later".
However, they also made it clear that :
Without a declared state of emergency, this is illegal.
Call for help and emergencies would be hindered, or made impossible.
Police and gendarmerie's high-speed broadband platform, "PC Storm", would not work.
For the time being, the Elysée has decided not to enforce this measure. If the situation becomes tense, the Interior Minister's wishes may well come true.
The government has not confirmed this information.

👉🏻 Two hours ago, the Ministry of the Interior reported 719 arrests nationwide, a far cry from the 1,300 or so made the previous night. «A calmer night thanks to the resolute action of the forces of law and order», Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, was pleased to report on his Twitter account during the night.
🔎 It remains to be seen if the momentum is truly slowing, or if the government and mainstream media are only trying to portray it as such. As a reminder, the 2005 riots lasted three weeks.
