🇫🇷😰 72% OF FRENCHMEN ARE WORRIED ABOUT WAR ESCALATION

📝 A poll by the CSA institute for CNEWS revealed yesterday that 7 out of 10 French people fear the conflict will spread and lead other countries, including France, to war in the coming months.

In detail, 72% of those surveyed said they feared the conflict would spread beyond Ukraine's borders. Among them, 24% say they fear this possibility "a lot", with 42% "slightly" worried about it.

Women are more concerned about this possibility than men. Indeed, 79% of women fear that the conflict will spread, compared to 65% of men.

Regarding age, young people between 18 and 24 years old believe less than others in an armed and direct participation of other nations against Russia.

Surprisingly enough, the fear is shared in equal manner across the political spectrum.

🔎 Many French nationalists went to fight on the Ukrainian side, including individuals from the national-socialist or hooligan movement, who already had links with Ukrainian nationalist groups before the war and some who had already fought since the Euromaidan events.

🔎 "Wali" is the nom de guerre of a Quebec sniper known for serving in Afghanistan and then as a volunteer in Kurdistan. He went to Ukraine in the early days of the war to serve on the Ukrainian side.

💪🏻 He became the heroic face of the Western volunteers in Ukraine after having escaped death several times.

📝 After several weeks on the frontline, he made a first return on his experience. If he doesn't regret going there, he points his finger at the logistical disorganization that affects Western volunteers in Ukraine.

➡️ For most of the volunteers who came to the border, joining a military unit was a nightmare. He and several other ex-Canadian soldiers initially preferred to join the Normandy Brigade, a private volunteer unit based for several months in Ukraine, led by a former Quebec soldier whose nom de guerre is Hrulf

➡️ Dissension quickly set in among the troops and a large number of fighters deserted the Normandy Brigade. Three people who requested anonymity described promises of weapons and protective equipment made by the leader of the Normandy Brigade that never materialized. Some of the volunteers found themselves near the Russian front without any protective equipment

➡️ Hrulf claims that some of them even "schemed" to rob him of a shipment of weapons worth $500,000 provided by Americans, in order to create their own combat unit

➡️ With another Quebec infantryman nicknamed Shadow, Wali eventually joined a Ukrainian unit fighting in the Kyiv region

🗣️ "But again, finding a firearm to fight with was a Kafkaesque exercise. You had to know someone who knew someone who told you that in such and such an old barber shop, they would provide you with an AK-47. You had to cobble together a soldier's kit like that by picking up bits and pieces and ammunition left and right, in many cases with weapons in varying degrees of condition."

👉🏻 While Macron has just won the presidential election and is stronger than ever, the legislative elections are coming.

ℹ️ Until a few days ago, Macron and Le Pen were given the lead in the first round. But a political revolution is coming.

🔎 All the left-wing parties have formed a grand coalition to try to win the election. Thus, this coalition called NUPES, includes:

⚒️ LFI (Mélenchon, neo-marxist)
⚒️ French Communist Party (Marxist)
🌹 Socialist Party (social democracy)
🌱 EELV Ecologist Party (liberal-urbanite/pro-EU)

📊 This great alliance of far left and liberal parties, allows the NUPES to project itself very high in the polls.

🗳️ NUPES is in the second round in more than 400 constituencies (out of 577 constituencies). At this stage, it is impossible to say if the coalition will win the election or even if this coalition will hold.

📌 But in the event that NUPES wins the election, it would be a real revolution:

↪️ Mélenchon (neo-Marxist, chavist) would be appointed Prime Minister. He would have a free hand to block President Macron and to destroy the Fifth Republic in order to build the new regime he calls for, the Sixth Republic.

⚖️ Note that the French political system is a strict presidential system where, normally, the President necessarily has a majority in Parliament. If this is not the case, the country is generally totally ungovernable and blocked for 5 years.


👀 If at this stage the victory of the NUPES remains unimportant or uncertain, it is therefore necessary to scrutinize these events carefully: if in June the NUPES wins the legislative elections, the country would plunge into a period of uncertainty and the face of France could well change drastically, taking Europe with it.

🪙 French lender Société Générale, which has operated in Russia for 150 years, has set aside €561mn for the first quarter, and expects to lose €3.1bn ($3.3bn) on the sale of its Rosbank subsidiary - which was founded by billionaire Vladimir Potanin. The bank has 3.1 million retail customers throughout Russia and $19.3bn of total exposure to the country. Around 12,000 people are employed by Rosbank.

💸 According to the Financial Times, international sanctions have "forced banks to consider turning their backs on a country that some lenders first entered more than a century ago."

🗣 This week a string of European banks set aside billions of euros in provisions ahead of the closure of their Russian operations, following similar moves by US lenders last month. Western banks collectively have $86bn of exposure to Russia — with close to 40,000 staff — and are setting aside more than $10bn in expectation of losses on their ventures, according to Financial Times calculations.
