Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) would like to invite qualified, experienced and competent applicants for the following positions: Position: Senior Agricultural Researcher or Equivalent Positions:-Field of Specialization
* Crop Sciences Required No. 1 * Animal Sciences Required No. 1 * Natural Resources Required No. 1 * Agricultural Economics Required No. I Required Qualification: • MSc/PhD in Agricultural Sciences or related fields Minimum skill and experiences: • Must be familiar with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research system, preferably one who was former staff of Ethiopian Agricultural Research system and left the system on good terms.
• At least 5 years of work experience, with a position of Senior Agricultural Researcher or Equivalent Positions, in the national and/or international agricultural research systems and meritorious performance in implementing agricultural research for development projects.
• Must have a good track record of publishing research findings in reputable, international and peerreviewed publication channels such as journals of academic publishers.
• Must have a demonstrated ability, commitment and experience to design and execute effective methods of training, mentoring and coaching junior researchers
• Demonstrated skill in preparation of research manuals and guidelines
• Proven experience in developing long-term research strategies and projects financed by external fund sources/ resource partners • Excellent oral and written communications in English
• Willing and able to frequently travel to research centers/stations outside Addis Ababa as deemed necessary to deliver outputs specified in the Responsibility Section below.
• A strong set of personal values including integrity, honesty and desire to be of service.
• Diligent and efficient in meeting commitment against specified time and delver defined products. Responsibility: The senior scientists to be hired for and by the project are expected to accomplish the activities that will assure the project’s ultimate feat of attaining the expected outputs. Therefore, this ToR is intended to give a general frame of duties that will be undertaken by the scientists. The engagement of the senior scientists will be across the whole spectrum of the research disciplines and directorates of EIAR in lieu of specific commodities. The general frame of activities includes:
• Formulate topics and syllabus for short-term trainings, that are both discipline-specific and cross sectoral, based on the results of need assessments and priorities compiled for the research directorates of EIAR
• Establish a common guideline for developing different training modules to be used in dispensing the different topics and syllabus to be formulated as indicated above
• Develop training plans based on the results of the topic and syllabus formulation process indicated above
• Organize the trainings by mobilizing appropriate resource persons, in consultation with the PC, from within or outside EIAR and follow up that each resource person accorded with the task to provide the training will develop appropriate training modules as per the guideline indicated under bullet item above
• Review implementation of the long-term research strategies developed in RESARP-I and forward recommendations for amendment in light of new national and sectoral perspectives and developments
• Develop manuals for research, technology multiplication and promotion based on the results of need assessments and priorities compiled for the research directorates of EIAR
• Develop a mentorship guideline and mentor junior researchers based on the guideline
• Develop a guideline for research performance measurement and reward system • Organize consultation and validation workshops for endorsing modules, manuals, guidelines and on the results of the review
• Prepare and submit, to the PC for compilation, the monthly, quarterly, six-monthly and annual reports required of the project; in such a format and quality standards that EIAR demands
