Frances Ridley Havergal’s original verse (sung above in Russian):

I gave my life for thee,
My precious blood I shed,
That thou might'st ransom'd be,
And quickened from the dead.
I gave my life for thee;
What hast thou done for me?

I spent long years for thee
In weariness and woe,
That one eternity
Of joy thou mightest know;.
I spent long years for thee;
Hast thou spent one for me?

My Father's house of light,
My rainbow-circled throne,
I left for earthly night,
For wand'rings sad and lone.
I left it all all for thee;
Hast thou left aught for me?

I suffered much for thee,
More than my tongue can tell,
Of bitterest agony;
To rescue thee from hell.
I suffered much for thee;
What dost thou bear for me?

And I have brought to thee,
Down from my house above,
Salvation full and free.
My pardon and my love.
Great gifts I brought to thee;
What hast thou brought to me?

O let thy life be given,
Thy years for me be spent,
World fetters all be riven,
And joy with suffering blent;
Give thou thyself to me,
And I will welcome thee!

Genuine question, why do such a large percentage of the immigrants I see in the U.K. look so extremely miserable ? The expression on their faces ( in general ) looks not relieved or happy to be in the U.K., and it’s very rare that I see them saying hello or having any interactions with other people. Has anyone else noticed this ? The children often look a bit happier - but overall there’s a strange feeling they seem to have . Has anyone else seen this ?

Went to a Church of England service earlier. Bishop of Plymouth gave the sermon. It was laughable. No wonder this country's in such a mess. He mentioned the Eurovision song contest twice in 10 minutes, including in his opening remarks. Going to write something more substantial about it this week.

“The journalist also reveals how a detective, contacted by concerned social workers, secretly photographed VIPs visiting Kincora and logged their car registrations.

The visitors included Northern Ireland Office officials who worked for MI5, lay magistrates, police officers and businessmen.

The detective put in a request for a larger team of officers to investigate the home but was instructed to leave the matter by his superiors.

Moore says it’s possible MI5 planted Kincora housemaster William McGrath in the children’s home as part of an intelligence-gathering operation […]

The Kincora housemaster then allegedly brought “his friend Dickie” to the premises. Arthur claims he was taken to a room with a big desk and a shower. He found it strange that there was a bathroom inside an office […]

After Lord Mountbatten raped him, the 11-year-old was instructed to have a shower. He told Moore: “I felt sick, and I was crying in the shower. I just wanted it all to stop.”

However, a few days later the royal returned to the home “and there was a repeat of what had happened at their first meeting” […]

A third paedophile — prominent Orangeman and evangelical Christian McGrath — was appointed housemaster in 1971.

Police frequently visited the premises in the 1960s and 1970s to investigate the teenagers’ complaints of being sexually abused. The boys watched with disappointment as officers left without taking action.

It was routinely alleged that the boys were lying about staff in revenge for some perceived admonishments.

While Mains and Semple were more “subtle” in their approach — generally leaving alone children who strongly resisted them — Moore says McGrath used brute force.

The journalist believes the prominent Orangeman worked as an agent informer for MI5 in the 1970s. He asks if it is possible that he was planted in the home by the intelligence service.

“What of a Kincora-based paedophile ring, which operated on both sides of the Irish border to supply boys for sex with a client list of rich and powerful individuals?

“Such intelligence might have given MI5 leverage over rich and powerful individuals anxious to avoid their paedophilic habits becoming public knowledge. The organisation was known to exploit such human weaknesses,” he says.

“MI5 has denied that McGrath worked for them, but I have two police sources who know that he did”.”

The EU madness continues.
I was reading this morning in the FT that Kalas is banging on about another sanction package against Russia to block any rapprochement between the US and Russia regarding the revival of Nord Stream 2!
Starmer and the coalition of the unwilling are obsessed beyond reason with project Ukraine, and their failed policy of sanctions, which hurt nobody but their own economies. Russia's economy is growing by 4.5%.
Starmer refused to attend a meeting of the PLP last week. His own MP's are furious and are now publicly stating that Queer Stalin is spending too much time on 'foreign policy' ie. Project Ukraine. So the flaccid little creep of a PM gives a speech somebody else wrote for him mimicking 'Knocker', a speech for which Powell was sacked btw. And what does he come up with? We are going to deport illegals to Albania! Problem is Albania told Starmer to get stuffed! We and the EU leadership are a laughing stock!
Can anyone tell me what number of sanctions package we are now on please? I've run out of fingers and toes!

The EU stuff going on is a constitutional crisis. We had a referendum to leave. We never got that properly anyway. But to surrender fishing rights and sign us up to paying for joint EU defence schemes is a betrayal by the executive of a constitutional decision to leave the EU, voted by the people of this country

This is a massive thing

This deal is being called a "new agreement" or "strategic partnership". This means there is no parliamentary process at this time, and these agreements and partnerships, as we saw with the Ukraine 100 year deal, are wholly arranged by the executive

This EU deal may perhaps be signed under the government’s prerogative powers as a treaty (I don't know), but if so I think ratification requires parliamentary approval under the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010. However, this process allows only a 21-day period for Parliament to object, limiting scrutiny

If this deal is implemented without sufficient parliamentary scrutiny, could it face legal challenges similar to the Miller case, arguing that it alters the UK’s constitutional relationship with the EU? Where are all the constitutional lawyers??
