🇷🇺🇲🇩🇲🇩 Russia seeks to expand its military presence in Transnistria to 10,000 troops and install a pro-Moscow government in Moldova to enable this, according to Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Recean accuses Moscow of interfering in Moldova’s upcoming September elections, using online propaganda and illicit cash transfers. He claims Russia spent the equivalent of 1% of Moldova’s GDP on influence operations in 2024. In the last EU referendum, passed by just 0.7%, Moldovan authorities also blamed Russian interference.

Recean warns that a pro-Russian government would permit troop expansion in Transnistria—currently home to around 1,500 troops, mostly locals under Russian command. He suggests this move would threaten Ukraine’s southwest and NATO member Romania.

🐻 Well... Ukraine’s southwest is Odessa so...

🇺🇸🇺🇳 USA vetoes Gaza ceasefire resolution

A draft resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza failed to pass in the UN Security Council on Wednesday after the United States cast its veto – blocking the initiative backed by all ten elected members of the Council.

The text, co-sponsored by Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Somalia – collectively known as the E-10 – received 14 votes in favour, with the US casting the lone vote against.

As one of the council’s five permanent members, the US holds veto power – a negative vote that automatically blocks any resolution from going forward.

Had it been adopted, the draft would have demanded “an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza” to be respected by all parties.

🇮🇷 Iran
🇾🇪 Yemen
🇱🇾 Libya
🇸🇩 Sudan
🇦🇫 Afghanistan
🇲🇲 Burma
🇹🇩 Chad
🇨🇬 Republic of the Congo
🇬🇶 Equatorial Guinea
🇪🇷 Eritrea
🇭🇹Haiti
🇸🇴 Somalia

Additionally, there is a 'partial' ban for:
🇻🇪Venezuela
🇨🇺 Cuba
🇧🇮 Burundi
🇱🇦 Laos
🇸🇱 Sierra Leone
🇹🇬 Togo
🇹🇲 Turkmenistan

According to the White House, these countries lack proper screening and vetting capabilities.

The ban exempts existing visa holders, lawful permanent residents, specific visa categories, and 'individuals deemed to serve U.S. national interests.'

Trump stated that the list could be revised if countries improve conditions and meet U.S. vetting standards, and that additional countries could be added if they pose a risk.
