📝Macron Wins Romanian Presidential Election📝

Results of the Second Round

In Romania, the second round of the presidential election was held not without scandals. The pro-European candidate Nicuşor Dan won with 53.60%, while the Eurosceptic George Simion lost with 46.40%.

©️In the latest public opinion polls, Simion maintained the lead. However, even before the first round of the election, we predicted that Simion would win the first round but lose in the final stage to the pro-European candidate, among whom Nicuşor Dan was already mentioned.

🖍Tellingly, Dan first of all thanked the presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, and Moldova, Maia Sandu for their support. They worked the most on his campaign.

🚩Yesterday, Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated that France interfered in the Romanian elections: the French demanded to restrict access to channels that supported Simion. The French military intelligence (DGSE) denied Durov's accusations - which looks rather comical, given the overall increasing censorship in France.

🏳️However, earlier Simion claimed that the French ambassador to Romania was campaigning for his opponent Dan, meeting with business representatives, and also discussed the annulment of the election results with a Constitutional Court judge.

❗️In the Western international community, Dan's victory has brought relief: Brussels will not have to face another opponent who challenges the party line, including on the issue of supporting the so-called Ukraine. However, behind the geopolitical context lies a complex situation in Romania itself: the country is in a state of economic crisis and political division, and all this will have to be overcome by the new president.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 Donald Trump said his conversation with Vladimir Putin went "very well" and announced that Russia and Ukraine will soon begin negotiations to halt the fighting and end the conflict. He emphasized that both sides will set the terms themselves, as only they understand the details.

Trump added that Russia is eager to establish large-scale trade with the United States after the war ends, and he supports the idea, calling Russia's economic potential "unlimited." He also noted that Ukraine could benefit significantly through reconstruction and trade opportunities.

🇬🇷 The 19th May marks the Day of Remembrance of the Pontic Greek Genocide.

Between 1914-1923, over 350,000 ethnic Greeks, indigenous to the Pontus region of what is now Turkey, were killed by Turkish forces belonging to the Young Turks movement and the nationalist Turkish National Movement, led by the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

By the end of the genocidal campaign in 1923, the survivors of the massacres and mass expulsions were deported to Greece, as part of a population exchange between Greece and Turkey.

Zelensky is stalling on direct Ukraine–Russia negotiations ordered by Trump after his call with Putin. Instead, he’s proposing a broader meeting involving the U.S., EU, and Russia—suggesting locations like Turkey, the Vatican, or Switzerland.

Trump, however, was explicit: Russia and Ukraine must immediately begin bilateral talks to end the war, emphasizing that only those two sides can define the terms.

🇷🇺 🇫🇷 French intelligence services used the fight against terrorism as a cover, but in reality they wanted to influence the situation in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, — Pavel Durov

"French foreign intelligence confirmed that they met with me, supposedly to combat terrorism and child pornography. In fact, child pornography was not even mentioned [during the meetings]. They wanted the IP of terrorist suspects in France, but their main target was always geopolitics: Romania, Moldova, Ukraine."

US sanctions now look "less likely than ever", The Times writes after Trump's report of phone call with Putin.

"Rather than punish Russia with 'crunching' sanctions, as some had hoped, he called the call 'excellent' and said Russia had a 'tremendous opportunity' to do business with the US if the war ended," the newspaper writes.
