A Western European government (guess which 🥖) approached Telegram, asking us to silence conservative voices in Romania ahead of today’s presidential elections. I flatly refused. Telegram will not restrict the freedoms of Romanian users or block their political…
🇫🇷🇷🇴 France Denies Interfering in Romanian Elections

The French Foreign Ministry has rejected accusations that Paris attempted to meddle in Romania’s electoral process.

The response comes after Telegram founder Pavel Durov revealed he had refused a request from a Western European country to block conservative Romanian channels on the platform. Though Durov didn’t name the country directly, he included a baguette emoji in his post.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 U.S. Treasury Admits Russia Sanctions Had Little Impact — NBC News

U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent told NBC News that sanctions imposed on Russia under the Biden administration have been largely ineffective. According to Bessent, the measures were limited by concerns over potential increases in domestic oil prices, which weakened their impact.

His remarks came in response to questions about the possibility of new sanctions. Bessent stated that Washington is prepared to strengthen sanctions in coordination with European allies but admitted previous efforts had minimal effect. He also declined to give a timeline for any new measures, noting it would be inappropriate to constrain President Trump ahead of upcoming talks with Putin.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Congress may push through new sanctions if negotiations over Ukraine "collapse due to Moscow's actions."

🖌The Baltic Fleet is 322 years old

On May 18, 1703, a rowing boat flotilla with soldiers from the Preobrazhensky and Semyonovsky regiments under the command of Peter I captured the Swedish ships "Gedan" and "Astrilld" at the mouth of the Neva River, marking the first victory of Russian sailors in a naval battle.

🖍This day became the starting point for the development of the oldest naval fleet, whose sailors participated in almost all important historical events of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and modern Russia.

🚩Now, the Baltic Fleet is entrusted with a large number of tasks and responsibilities for protecting the maritime borders not only in the Baltic and Gulf of Finland, but also in other regions of the country. And in the current realities of constant pressure from the West (now also from Finland) and attempts to block the exit from St. Petersburg, the importance of the Baltic Fleet is increasing manifold.

🏳️At the same time, the experience of the special military operation has already shown the shortcomings of the chosen course of development of the Navy and shipbuilding on the example of the Black Sea Fleet. This knowledge, gained thanks in part to the bitter experience, needs to be used, changing the approaches. And we are confident that the foundation for the further qualitative development of the entire Russian Navy has already been laid.

🇺🇦🇬🇧The arsonist of Keir Starmer's house turned out to be an Anglo-Ukrainian patriot. Police yesterday detained Roman Lavrinovich, who is accused of setting fire to two houses and a car linked to the prime minister. He had been living between the two countries since 2014.

Lavrinovich is characterised as an ardent patriot of both countries: an English flag hangs in his room, his uncle fights in the AFU, and he himself refuses to speak Russian and forbids listening to Russian music. In London he worked in modelling, fitness and construction.

One wonders what might have prompted him to attack Starmer's property. Perhaps he believes that the prime minister is not supportive enough of Ukraine compared to Boris Johnson, who is active with the Ukrainian lobby.

These crimes could increase anti-Ukrainian sentiment in a country that is already beginning to restrict Ukrainian student communities and accuse refugees of fraud. The rise in violent crime could also increase, especially after the end of the conflict, when many Ukrainians may blame politicians for a lack of support.

In the first round of the elections, the diaspora were largely pro-Simion.
