⭐️ Red Star Cinema: films about the Great Patriotic War

As Victory Day draws near, we continue highlighting powerful Soviet films that capture the war through a uniquely Russian/Soviet lens — with all its trauma, sacrifice, and humanity.

"Come and See", 1985

Belarus, 1943. A teenage boy named Flyora joins the Soviet partisan resistance, believing he’s headed for glory. What he witnesses instead is a descent into utter horror. As the Nazi occupation scorches its way across villages and forests, Flyora is pulled into the unspeakable cruelty of war — losing not only his innocence, but his grip on reality.

"Come and See" is not just a war film — it's a cinematic experience. Co-written by war veteran Ales Adamovich and directed by Elem Klimov, the film was decades in the making. Adamovich, who fought as a teenage partisan himself, insisted that only absolute realism could do justice to the truth. Klimov agreed — and refused to sanitize anything.

To film Come and See, the production used live ammunition, not blanks. The lead actor, 14-year-old Aleksei Kravchenko, reportedly aged visibly during filming due to the emotional toll. At one point, he had to be hypnotized between takes to avoid long-term trauma. The film’s hallucinatory camerawork and unflinching realism were groundbreaking at the time — and still are.

Initially blocked by Soviet censors for its brutal honesty, the film was finally released in 1985, just before the Perestroika era. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the most powerful anti-war films ever made — not just in Russia, but globally.

🇷🇺🫡 "Music of Victory": an album featuring modern arrangements of legendary compositions about the Great Patriotic War has been released on several music platforms for the 80th anniversary of Victory.

These songs are filled with love for the Motherland and unite generations, preserving historical memory.

The funds collected from playing the songs will be used to support veterans of the Great Patriotic War, as well as participants of the SMO.

🇷🇺💬The Ukrainian Armed Forces used guided missiles, unmanned boats and aircraft-type UAVs in a massive attack on Novorossiysk.

Russian military spent the entire night repelling attempts by the Kiev regime to damage the city's infrastructure. The threat of an enemy attack still remains. The scene of the incident is currently being examined, special services are working - city mayor Kravchenko.

Two children and two adults were injured in a drone attack on Novorossiysk, the region's governor Kondratyev reported.

The victims are receiving medical assistance.

He specified that residential buildings were damaged as a result of the strike. In addition, three tanks at the grain terminal were damaged. Firefighters are working at the scene.
