⭐️ Red Star Cinema: films about the Great Patriotic War

Victory Day is approaching, and every day we will talk about a movie that we think is worth watching to learn more about the war, and the Russian/Soviet perspective on it.

"The Dawns Here Are Quiet", 1972

Karelia, 1942. The front lines are far away, but war has reached even the quiet northern forests. A seasoned Red Army sergeant, Vaskov, is tasked with training a seemingly unlikely anti-aircraft unit: a small group of young female volunteers. But their routine assignment takes a deadly turn when they discover a group of German saboteurs operating in the area.

Based on the famous novella by Boris Vasilyev, "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" became one of the most iconic Soviet war films. Deeply emotional yet restrained in its storytelling, the film earned international acclaim and remains a poignant tribute to those who served — and those who never came back.

❗️"The Nazis were killing people, and the police did nothing."

Anti-Maidan activist Igor Nemodrug talks about the tragedy at the Trade Union House in Odessa on May 2, 2014, after the Nazis overthrew the legitimate government in Kiev and took power in Ukraine

🇩🇪 Germany's domestic intelligence agency has formally declared the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party to be an "extremist group".

While this new declaration does not mean that the AfD will be banned, it will, however, legally permit the German authorities to intensify their surveillance of the party, including the use of undercover informants and monitoring party communications, under German judicial oversight.

Government calls to outright ban the party have also reignited.
