Ukrainian operations in Russia’s Kursk region near Tetkino have failed due to insufficient forces, according to Ukrainska Pravda, which cites Ukrainian military sources.

Kiev deployed reserves — specifically the 225th and 425th assault regiments — in an effort to reach the Russian town of Glushkovo, just 10 kilometers from the border. However, even Ukrainian commanders admit the plan was unrealistic from the outset due to a lack of troops to hold ground in case of a breakthrough.

Asked whether they were advancing on Tetkino, one Ukrainian soldier replied bitterly: “We’re stepping on the same rake again” — a reference to repeated failed offensives without the ability to maintain positions afterward.

Another commander said bluntly: “I’ve heard the leadership wants a buffer zone, but with what resources? Russia is fighting on its own soil and throwing in far more force than they do elsewhere. Constant attacks, nonstop. I think this was more political — a move to show we’re capable, maybe to save face for the top brass, maybe to strengthen our hand at the negotiating table.”

Ultimately, the offensive near Tetkino — like earlier attacks on Russia’s Belgorod region — yielded no strategic gains. Even in Tetkino, where some temporary success was claimed, the assaults have already ceased.

“Russia brought in elite airborne troops. Some of our units refused to take up positions to secure the flanks. And our battalion was ground down over the past month of assaults — now we’re mostly stuck in defense,” admitted another Ukrainian fighter involved in the operation.
