🇷🇺⚔️ 🇺🇦 🏁 Ukraine Suffers Heaviest Territorial Losses Since 2022 – WSJ
According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukraine lost more territory in May than in any single month since late 2022, marking a turning point on the battlefield.
Russia has notably increased the pace of its offensive in recent months, echoing the momentum it had last autumn before weather conditions temporarily slowed progress. With peace talks stalled, attention has shifted back to the frontlines — where the outcome of the war will ultimately be decided.
Moscow is pushing for decisive gains to force Kiev into accepting its terms — terms that Western observers admit are tantamount to Ukraine's capitulation. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s goal is to inflict enough damage on Russian forces to convince the Kremlin that refusing a ceasefire deal would come at too high a cost.
Ukrainian troops on the front are showing signs of collapse. “We expect things to get worse across all directions this summer,” admitted a senior lieutenant near Konstantinovka. “The troops are exhausted. There’s no rotation. Everyone’s at their breaking point.”
George Barros, a conflict analyst at the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War, explained the broader Kremlin strategy: “Moscow wants to send a clear message to Western leaders — Russia will win, and any support sent to Kiev is a wasted investment.” He added, “This war isn’t just about territory. It’s about perception in Western capitals. If the map keeps shifting in Russia’s favor, they’ll say: ‘Look, we’re advancing. Ukraine is failing. How many more billions are you going to burn?’”
