Canadian Home Sales Continue to Climb in November
Moments ago, the Bank of Canada trimmed an additional 25 basis points (0.25 percentage points) off of its influential overnight rate, reducing it to 3%.
The latest cut follows five consecutive rate reductions to the central bank’s key policy rate in 2024.
However, the central bank’s latest move was also less aggressive than the previous two jumbo cuts (50 basis points). That lines up with market-watcher expectations for more gradual reductions in interest rates. While inflation has dipped below the BoC’s target, the threat of a trade war with the U.S. has policymakers taking a more cautious approach.
